The dehesa de Navalvillar is a natural area located in the town of Colmenar Viejo, Madrid (Spain).
There are references to it since the eleventh century, where it is mentioned that King Alfonso X hunted the bear in the area. Some centuries ago it lost its forest mass due to the sale of wood for the payment of municipal debts.
Due to its location in the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama, protected by the north by the hill of San Pedro has been a place of settlements since ancient times, among the remains found are many Visigothic houses of the sixth and seventh centuries that lasted until after the seizure of the peninsula by the Arabs of the eighth century and metal mines.
In modern times it has been used for: film shootings, more than two hundred (Spartacus, El Cid and many spaghetti westerns); military shooting practice, storage of municipal material and place of leisure.

➡ HOW TO GET THERE:
⏲ We are MEETING at 10:00 at Colmenar Viejo.
🚗 BY CAR - We will leave from Plaza de Castilla at 9:30am.
If we have enough cars we will allocate all hikers in the available cars. Otherwise, the meeting point can be reach by bus. Please, provide us with your WhatsApp number when signing up.
🚌BY BUS Take the 724, 725 or 726 bus from Plaza de Castilla Intercambiador around 9:15-20 am. There are many buses going to Colmenar Viejo. We will give more details about which bus to take via the WhatsApp group.
The price of a one-way ticket is 4.20€. Also if you happen to have an Abono Joven, good news for you: the trip is included in it and therefore free for you showing the Abono! :)
➡ WHAT TO BRING:
Hiking shoes or mountain boots. Trail running sneakers are ok as well.
A small backpack for your stuff.
1L of water or other soft drinks per person. PLEASE DON´T BRING LESS.
Your lunch.
Sunscreen & sunglasses.
A hat or a cap.
Gloves and a scarf.
A fleece or warm sweatshirt as it will be cold.
A windproof jacket or a coat.
Bring yourself ready to enjoy a wonderful and fun hike with like-minded people! :)
We expect to be back at Plaza de Castilla around 19:00h. However, bear in mind that the expected time is approximated since hiking depends on the group's pace and any other circumstances that might arise along the hike.
