About Event

Join Us for an Inclusive Art-in-Health Workshop: Garden of Self

Immerse yourself in a unique art-in-health workshop designed to foster inclusivity, self and environmental connection, and disability awareness—all through the lens of creativity. Whether you're an artist, a health advocate, or simply curious, this workshop offers an enriching space for reflection and expression.

What to Expect:

  • Chair Yoga & Meditation: Ease into the session with a calming chair yoga practice led by Kelly Logan Walker, followed by a mindfulness meditation with Arshia Marwah. This grounding start will help you connect body and mind.

  • Interactive Presentation on Disability Awareness: Explore visible and invisible disabilities and how they shape our connection to nature and each other. Led by Ryn Delpapa, this segment introduces the intersectional identities of disability, followed by an open dialogue to reflect on personal experiences.

  • Creative Activity: Garden of Self – Group Mural & Collage: Bring your imagination to life in two collaborative art sessions! In Garden of Self, you'll express yourself by creating word-inspired artwork by Maria Alejandra Rosales. In the collage portion, led by Jenny McCloskey, you'll create a personal collage using mixed media that reflects your connection to nature and community.

  • Small Group Discussions & Reflection: Engage in thoughtful conversations in small groups, share your artistic journey, and connect with others on a deeper level.

Why Attend?

This workshop isn’t just about art—it’s about using creativity as a tool for healing and self-discovery. You’ll learn how art can help explore ecological themes and inclusivity while fostering an understanding of disability. By participating, you’ll gain new perspectives, reduce stress, and be part of a vibrant, supportive community.

Don’t miss this opportunity to create, reflect, and connect in an inclusive space that celebrates diversity, wellness, and the power of art. Participation in the event will contribute to a research project connected to the organizer's ongoing Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship.

Sign up today and get ready to embark on a creative journey!

Materials needed: We recommend gathering your art supplies (paper, drawing tools, collage materials) ahead of time for the best experience. Every garden tells a story, and so do you — we can't wait to see you there!
