CFE Community Call with Ishwar Persad: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Principles and Practices for Coaches

 ·      Are you a coach that is new to the field of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)?

·      Are you knowledgeable and skilled at Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) and new to coaching?

This interactive, CFE Community call provides an opportunity for participants to engage in some provocative, brave, and robust conversations about Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Coaching. It’s an opportunity for participants to expand and strengthen their knowledge and to find common vocabulary and understanding of key EDI concepts and practices. This mini-workshop is designed to introduce some fundamental concepts and practices from the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) fields to coaches who are interested in exploring how to embed EDI into their coaching practice. We’ll go beyond simply increasing awareness and knowledge of issues. Participants will have an opportunity to analyze power differences and dynamics, and develop their critical reflection skills to examine if, how, when, and why to initiate and bring their coaching clients awareness towards EDI issues and conversations.

We’ll also examine ways to develop a reflexive approach to embed EDI concepts and practices into your coaching work. Participants will explore power relations in terms of how their social identities may impact their professional interactions and decision-making processes in regards to their clients and EDI and Coaching. We will also explore when and how to be an ally, an advocate, and a co-conspirator.

 Learning Objectives

At the end of the community call, participants will be able to:

·  describe and apply key EDI terminology and practices

·  analyze personal, professional, and organizational responsibilities related to EDI as a coach

·  apply tools and strategies to implement EDI in their day-to-day work as a coach

 ___________

Ishwar Persad, M.A.

I have an M.A. degree in Sociology and Equity Studies from OISE/University of Toronto. I genuinely enjoy working as an Executive and Leadership Coach supporting individual leaders and small teams to reach for their dreams and aspirations, creating something new or different for their organizations and themselves. I also employ my expertise in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Health Equity working with executives and leaders who are interested in and committed to embedding EDI concepts and practices into their work and organization. We work towards developing and deepening their EDI capacity, changing their status quo, and moving to a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive organization. We slow down and grapple with challenging and messy feelings that block as well as lead to deep self-reflection and potential transformation.

I bring a fun, compassionate, and creative style to Executive and Leadership coaching & facilitation. I bring over 25 years of experience designing and developing critical experiential curricula, and facilitating engaging, fun, experiential workshops. I foster brave and challenging conversations while meeting stated goals and objectives. I work from an intersectional perspective, addressing power dynamics on individual, interpersonal and organizational levels. Coaching clients & workshop participants are engaged in critical self-reflection and are supported in moving towards fundamental transformative changes in individual and team perspectives and practices. I am very passionate about how and why we learn and unlearn and employ this passion for social justice.
