About Event

Carbon is synonymous with climate, but what is it...really? This May we are going back to basics to brush up on carbon literacy. From individual impact to accounting fundamentals to industry examples, this evening will provide some critical foundations in understanding carbon.

Join us on Monday May 26th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for an evening that’s all about:

  • What carbon looks like in our day-to-day lives

  • How to quantify and categorize greenhouse gases

  • Strategies to track and reduce carbon in a high emission industry

🌿 Event Schedule

6:00 PM – Doors Open + Meet and Greet

6:30 PM - Climate North Intro + Sponsor Welcome

6:45 PM

Michelle Li is a global thought leader focused on accelerating climate action. From Silicon Valley to Climate Champion, Michelle has built an international following through her climate projects, Clever Carbon and Women and Climate, and has spoken on prestigious global stages including SXSW, Bloomberg, COP28, TEDx, and more. Michelle will be our carbon literacy jumping off point, discussing CO2 concentration, looking at the carbon footprint of day to day things and talking about where individuals can make a difference.

7:05 PM

Chris Caners is a proud father and enthusiastic cyclist who resides with his family on Treaty 13 Territory in Toronto and advocates for the distribution of energy, wealth and power. It is his privilege to be the General Manager of SolarShare, a co-operative that owns, operates and finances solar energy projects in Ontario. He is also an independent greenhouse gas and energy consultant, a director of the employee-owned firm Brightspot Climate and an instructor of greenhouse gas accounting at the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies. Chris will bring us through the fundamentals of accounting for greenhouse gases. From what they are to where they come from, how responsibility is allocated to how they are categorized and reported.

7:25 PM

AnaLaura Giacomel is a sustainable production specialist in the film and television industry, dedicated to reducing its environmental impacts. As Program Manager at Ontario Green Screen, she develops and promotes environmental resources, including having developed a course on industry-specific carbon calculators. She also supports research and education at Earth Angel, a leading consultancy in sustainable screen production. AnaLaura's presentation will focus on the film and television industry, which generates a significant volume of emissions through high energy and fuel consumption and material waste. Carbon calculating tools help track these impacts accurately, enabling productions to implement targeted strategies to reduce their carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices.

7:45 - Pop Quiz - time to put the learnings to the test.

8:00 - 9:00 PM - Networking
