Clean Air Cafe | Fundraiser for Asylum Seeker
Order a drink (coffee/tea/hot chocolate) and sip it through your drinking valve at the Clean Air Cafe! Optionally bring your knives (or other sharps such as gardening tools) and a member of the Seattle Queer and BIPOC Knife Sharpening Alliance will sharpen them while you wait! We’ll also have mask chains available to purchase. You’re welcome to bring a craft/game and socialize with other masked individuals, or wear headphones, work on something, and otherwise keep to yourself ☺️
We’ll be set up in our house’s standalone garage in the Central District (near the Grocery Outlet) where we have lots of seating, an espresso machine, and a knife sharpening station. The specific address will be sent to registered individuals the day before the event. The garage’s doors/windows will be open for air flow, with air purifiers running and far UV lights on.
KN95+ masks are required to stay on at all times with extra masks provided; drinks must be drunk through a sip valve or be taken to-go. A limited number of drinking valves will be available for distribution (and we’re happy to show you how to install them) or you can buy some for yourself ahead of time at sipmask.com. Some baked goods will be available to-go as well.
Drinks/baked goods will be available on a sliding scale $0-6. Knives will be sharpened in the order they arrive and are charged at $1 per inch for a budget finish or $2.5 per inch for a premium, mirror-polish finish. If you’re not sure what finish you want, the sharpener can recommend a finish based on your knives. Knife sharpening proceeds are split between the sharpener and the fundraiser; all drinks/baked goods proceeds go to the asylum seeker fundraiser.
Accessibility: There is seating for 20-30 people on couches/armchairs in the garage and lots of free street parking in the neighborhood. Whatever temperature it is outside is about how cold it will be in the garage — dress warmly! The garage can be accessed via a sloped gravel and grass path to its main door, or a paved path to its back door which has a raised lip you must go over to enter. Bathrooms will be available inside. There is 1 step to get inside the house.
