Get to Know Our Speakers

Hawk (first name Sarah, but keep that on the down-low) is a community expert of 20+ years. She began working as a software developer at Xerox in the 90’s, where her interest in the tech community was sparked, leading to a career change. Her experience as Community Manager at SitePoint network, Head of Community at FeverBee, and an online community consultant finally led her to joining Discourse, where she is now firmly ensconced as co–CEO.

Selva has been building and engaging communities since 2003 and is currently working in the Climate Change and Community space. Throughout his journey, Selva has been instrumental in mobilising several real-life and online communities. Selva currently works for the Auckland Council as Low Carbon Specialist and is an Ambassador at The Community Collective, having previously built communities for companies such as MYOB and Quora around the world.

Jess has worked as a community manager since 2008, and now is focused on building brand communities in the tech industry. Her experience is mixed across in-person and virtual community management, and always working to find the sweet spot between community needs and organisational goals. Currently at Asana, she manages the Asana Together Ambassador program for Asana's members across the Asia-Pacific region, hosting events and training programs for Asana's biggest fans - passionate about productivity, efficiency and collaboration. Previously, Jess spent 6 years leading Microsoft Retail's community and philanthropy programs in Australia, established Virgin Australia's social media monitoring program and managed social communities for Microsoft's European HQ.
