​Inhabiting Computation with Ben Cerveny

​Ben Cerveny has designed operating systems, mobile phones, massively multiplayer games, and photo-sharing web services [that he also got to name without doing the research in Dutch], and platforms for immersive experiences.  Now he runs an international foundation working with city and state governments to build digital public infrastructure as an open sustainable collaborative ecosystem called Public Code.  

​One of the facets of research within the collaborative work of the Foundation for Public Code is an exploration of what it might mean to have digital public CULTURAL infrastructure.  One of the most fertile areas of inquiry:  what does public spatial computing look like?  How does one make public architecture like the library, museum, performance venue infused with digital responsiveness, adaptability, and interaction?  How does one create an organizational vehicle that can sustainably maintain and evolve fast-moving capabilities like new modes of mediation in slow-moving contexts like public architectural spaces?

​Ben will explore some of the theoretical and cultural inputs to this pursuit, and talk through some recent developments in his current work.
