About Event

** This is a LIVE interview with author and screenwriter Kim Krizan about the craft of writing and reality of building a writing career. Attendees will be sent a recording after the interview. **

What makes a love story on the screen authentic and captivating? How can we use dialogue to forward the plot? What makes characters memorable?

Three decades on and Kim Krizan’s Before Sunrise films (co-created with Richard Linklater) remain one of the most realistic and compelling portrayals of love and romance in film history. Since then, Kim has gone on to publish Spy in the House of Anaïs Nin, an examination of long-buried material Krizan found while doing archival work in Nin's Los Angeles. Today, she teaches at UCLA and online.

Join us for a conversation with Kim as we discuss her writing journey, the craft behind her classic films, and her battles with Hollywood.

We’ll also discuss:

  • Her collaboration with director Richard Linklater

  • Her study of femme fatales

  • Techniques for honing writing style and voice

  • The intersection of writing and filmmaking

  • Her decades-long fascination for AnaĂŻs Nin
