Dana created a special work of art for BBCA that combines many of the themes in our mission with her own visits to our region including Santa Elena Canyon, the Rio Grande River, dark skies, and the Javelina she saw while camping at the site. Many of you may know Dana’s work already—as an artist, she’s been working on a series of works depicting species in the Big Bend that would be affected by the construction of the border wall. As a musician, Dana supported the Big Bend during the pandemic as one of the musicians featured to help raise funds for the Big Bend COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund.
In this virtual studio visit, you'll also meet Tim Johnson, owner of Marfa Book Company, who will moderate the talk. Tim has lived in Marfa for 15 years; you know him from the bookstore, as the organizer of our yearly Agave Festival, and as a curator and host of the many presentations with artists and writers that Marfa is known for. There's no one better to host an engaging discussion with Dana and we hope you are looking forward to this as much as we are.
