About Event

Ten years ago most of our battery needs were met by a pack of AAA batteries. The last 10 years has seen an accelerated growth in battery technology, supply chains, applications, and business models. Demand for batteries is forecast to increase up to 10-fold over the next decade, with sales expected to reach US$133-151 billion by 2030.

A new report by the Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre reveals a diversified battery industry could add 34,700 Australian jobs by 2030 and contribute $7.4 billion annually to Australia’s economy. Australia has a competitive advantage as a major supplier of battery minerals but there is a bigger battery supply chain opportunity for Australia.

What role can Victoria play? Hear from a number of industry experts as we move the conversation away from the gigafactory model and towards building;

  • a battery economy that leverages multiple chemistries

  • flexible manufacturing processes including the use of micro factories

  • batteries that are personalised to specific industrial, commercial, and residential requirements

  • battery systems with end of use circular economy in mind
