​Generalist Biomedical AI: Towards Scalable Healthcare Impact 🚀

​Foundation models are revolutionizing how we develop medical AI. These powerful models, trained on massive datasets using self-supervised learning, are adaptable to diverse medical tasks with minimal additional data. This generalist approach promises to make medical AI more accessible, safer, and equitable. In this talk, we showcase the potential of foundation models for healthcare and highlight recent advancements in creating generalist medical models and we will explore their potential in medicine to build towards a scalable healthcare impact.

​About Shek:

​Shekoofeh (Shek) Azizi is a staff research scientist and research lead at Google DeepMind. She received her PhD in Machine Learning for Health from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada. Specifically, over the past few years, she has been focused on developing approaches that facilitate the translation of AI solutions into tangible clinical impact. She is particularly interested in designing foundation models for biomedical applications and she has also been leading a couple of major efforts in this area, including the moonshot project behind Med-PaLM and Med-Gemini Google's flagship medical large model.  Her work has been covered in various media outlets and recognized by multiple awards including the Governor General’s Canada Academic Gold Medal for her contribution in improving diagnostic ultrasound.
