How Solitude is Changing...Everything. A discussion facilitated by Miriam
βThis will be a virtual live discussion, facilitated by me, Miriam from @miriam_tinny on IG and TikTok ππ»
βTopic How has solitude changed us? From the macro to the day-to-day.
βSource material: The Atlantic's article: The Anti-Social Century. It's behind a paywall but you can access it from an internet archive here: https://archive.md/YKKlw (note: this is not going to be a "phones are ruining everything" doomsday conversation. We all have more nuance than that!!)
βLocation: Zoom or another virtual platform. TBD on the tech so I'll send through a link a few days before to all rsvps!
βHow I will facilitate: I will loosely structure the discussion so we have some juicy questions, and also work to incorporate interactive elements like chat, breakout rooms etc so this doesn't feel like 'another Zoom call.'
βI've never done this before so this will be me learning in public! Let's go vulnerability! This specific event will be free. I'd like to charge for this kind of thing sooner than later because I intend to make this feel really valuable, but for now, no charge as I experiment! If you want to buy me a coffee or something, my venmo is @miriam-tinberg.
βThe objectives of this event:
βYou spend time thinking and learning out loud as part of a collective
βYou leave feeling connected to other like-minded people
βYou feel full, aware, curious, wanting to continue the conversation, and also you probably have more questions than answers
βAs Priya Parker, the author of my bible "The Art of Gathering" says, the more specific you can get in your guest list, the more purpose-aligned your gathering will be. SO--
βThis event is for you if you:
βget lit up by conversations about society, culture, and yourself. You might be someone people say "it's not that deep" to because you could probably analyze everything
βare ok with and interested in participating. You don't necessarily need to be comfortable doing it, but you need to be ok stretching in that way. This is a participatory experience, not a webinar. I won't force you to speak and I am a huge proponent of active listening, but this will work best when we have a majority of people engaging (+ in breakout rooms you will have to talk)
βcan talk about somewhat personal things with relative strangers. Now, I don't mean you trauma dump or reveal things you don't feel comfortable sharing, but just that this kind of discussion works best when it's not theoretical; we want to talk about our actual lives and how these issues manifest within them
βCAN'T WAIT TO DIVE IN WITH YOU ALL!
