You’ll explore how to translate real-world soundscapes into actionable data for AI, design intelligent interactions between AI agents, and create fallback solutions when other AI systems fail — all through the lens of cognitive sound mapping, a technique inspired by how visually impaired individuals navigate the world using sound.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of this workshop, you’ll understand:
The Fundamentals of Sonic Analytics – What it is, why it’s relevant, and how it’s shaping AI design.
Cognitive Sound Mapping – How humans, especially visually impaired individuals, prioritize and navigate using sound.
Mapping Sounds for AI – Capturing, categorizing, and representing sounds as data points.
Multi-Agent Ambient AI Systems – Designing intelligent AI environments where devices “talk” to each other to solve problems.
Fallback & Risk Mitigation – Using sound analytics when other sensors or data channels fail.
Hands-On Design Exercises
This isn’t just theory — you’ll be designing and experimenting in real time:
Sound Mapping Basics – Create radial maps of sound sources and categorize them by type, urgency, and proximity.
AI Agent Simulation – Map how everyday AI-enabled devices (e.g., washing machine, microwave, vacuum cleaner, microphones) can communicate through sound.
Problem-Solving Challenge – Work on a scenario where a “sprinkler AI agent” malfunctions and must coordinate with other AI devices to restore functionality.
Future-Forward Concept Building – Apply these techniques to design an ambient AI ecosystem that enhances user experience.
