EA Tech London: Understanding Recent AI Progress with Epoch AI

​December was a whirlwind month for AI, with new models being announced and benchmarks being saturated faster than anyone can keep up with.

In order to help us make sense of the current state of AI in 2025, David Owen will be talking about FrontierMath, reasoning models and AI progress. David is a Senior Researcher at Epoch AI where he leads the Data team, collecting empirical data on key trends in AI development and capabilities.

​Epoch AI is a research institute investigating key trends and questions that will shape the trajectory and governance of AI. They emphasize making their research accessible through their reports, models and visualizations to help ground the discussion of AI on a solid empirical footing. Their goal is to create a healthy scientific environment, where claims about AI are discussed with the rigor they merit.

​Understanding the situation is vital in order to know what to do next, and this will be a great opportunity to learn more about Epoch's work and ways in which you might be able to get involved.

Snacks and drinks will be provided - the ticket price is voluntary, and any leftover money will be donated to an effective charity.
