Good evening from London. 
How have things been with you? (Seriously! I'd love to hear. I will read what you share and aim to respond. But in all honesty, it might take me a few days to get back to you.)
This week was intense! I scheduled Friday for YouTube filming but instead - I've been preparing for an in-person workshop I'll be giving next Friday. This coming Thursday is going to be hectic as I prepare. I hope I get a chance to do filming this week instead.
And for those who don't know, our anniversary is coming up again. Peter and I have been married for nearly 13 years! How did that happen? As always, we'll head to the water to renew our vows to each other on Friday afternoon. It's not the same as the beautiful New Zealand waters and coast where we first shared them with each other. Inevitably, we forget the tissues (makes a mental note to put them in my handbag). And the business anniversary is also right around the corner!
It's becoming very clear to me, that I need to get better with delegation and focusing on my priorities (and my VERY long backlog from being ill the past few years!). I'll be bringing on some busines support in the new fiscal year (April 5th for UK companies). But I also need to figure out how to create an additional 2 hours in the day or release items. It feels like a a jigsaw puzzle but I'm up for the challenge. 
And finally, US folks! I finally got my US passport renewed (it's only been 5 years since the thing expired LOL). Yay me. So I might be planning a trip state-side in 2023. Should I plan an event or series of day workshops so I can meet some of you? Let me know.

Last week's Anuradha Asks sparked a great discussion over on Facebook. I heard lots of ideas around accessibility needed to support a neurodiverse workforce. People shared: 'allow work from home options', 'provide accomodations with out demanding paperwork of the disabled person to struggle to determine their needs for them', 'allow for multiple inputs (written, chats, emails, 1-1, cameras on/off)', 'allow for quiet spaces for working on site or provide/allow noise canceling headphones'. Another person mentioned that they often could do their work well, but because of the prejudice against ND folks they were pushed out of jobs because of social expectations. I will sharing some ideas of my own on YT this week. 
​Reflection question: In a recent conversation with an organization, I mentioned that 1 in 5 people have mental illness, a further 1 in 5 have a disability, and more recent statistics are showing 1 in 5 have dyslexia. It was a red flag to me, that in their organization of 60 strong they said they had no one with disabilities or ND. I have a few thoughts that I'll share over on YT. I invite you to reflect, in your spaces, to what extent are access needs being met? How can you be an advocate for those in the room who might not be comfortable sharing their needs? 
​Feedback: I have a great opportunity to talk about seeds coming up. I'd love some feedback from you. I give my presentation in 10 days and the practice presentation is coming up this week. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (from 2015 or something) - Yes, I know. Why am I watching this?! I couldn't tell you but it's good background listening while I work. I think this season, I'm noticing the levels of ableism: in the ways they think, share, the expectations they have on themselves and each other, and the ways we don't believe disabled and chronically ill people. 

The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Vol 5. by BBC Audio. We're working our way through this series about Ma Ramotswe, head of the detective agency in Botswana by Alexander McCall Smith. I love the voices and the sound effects - like the old days of radio. 
Dating Dr. Dil, by Nisha Sharma. It's a love story about a Indian diasporic couple set in New Jersey. I'm only on Chapter 4 and it's quite sweet. It reminds me of this article I read about eldest daughters I read this week. While birth order has been debunked, I think there is a certain relationship with first born females in certain cultures. 
And I finished a very short novella, The Wrong Suitcase by Laura Jane Williams. A very predictable and sweet romance at a destination wedding. 
Maybe I'm feeling sentimental about love since I'll be celebrating love with my sweetie? Am I the sappy one or is he? Maybe we both are. 
My wireless headphones are getting quite the mileage. Thanks Peter for selecting the perfect ones for me. 
And finally, here's a great graphic series on deep knowledge vs short form content consumption. While I appreciate short form content, I have definitely valued deeper knowledge and the nuance that comes with.

I won't forget the tissues

Hiya! It's been a few weeks since I've been in touch. Truth be told, I've had my head down in ant work mode, submitting proposals and preparing for a couple of upcoming trainings. And personally, it's been a few weeks of internal processing and continued foundation setting. 
It's honestly been a few years since I wrote a proper newsletter, more regularly. And that's one of the foundations I want to build this year. And likely soon, these will be written by me but sent out by our new assistant. I'll tell you more about that adventure next time - I'm trying to select someone out of the top 3 candidates!

Back to Life - a British comedy/drama about a woman returning to her hometown after she served time for a crime. It was dark and beautiful in a way that US shows don't often capture. I adored the portrayal of Miri by Daisy Howard. 
Red, White, and Royal Blue, recently, I finished a sweet, queer romance novel by Casey McQuiston. It was recommended by some of you — thank you! Very sweet. I love that reimaging of the past few years in both the UK/US scene for a sweet romance. 

The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Vol 4. by BBC Audio - the little one and I listened the first 3 a few years ago. We're working our way through this series about Ma Ramotswe, head of the detective agency in Botswana by Alexander McCall Smith. There are still Vol. 5-8 to check out.

I adored the portrayal of Miri by Daisy Howard. ​Red, White, and Royal Blue, recently, I finished a sweet, queer romance novel by Casey McQuiston. It was recommended by some of you — thank you! Very sweet. I love that reimaging of the past few years in both the UK/US scene for a sweet romance. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Vol 4. by BBC Audio - the little one and I listened the first 3 a few years ago. We&#x27;re working our way through this series about Ma Ramotswe, head of the detective agency in Botswana by Alexander McCall Smith. There are still Vol. 5-8 to check out. ​Thank goodness for the Libby App! ​And I bought some new highlighers and a new paper cutter - yay for new office supplies. </div>

You can mark your calendar for our monthly networking meet up for the last Tuesday of the month at 6 pm UK (London) time. I have the first quarter of events already scheduled and planned. Come to one or come to them all. Of course, feel free to invite your colleagues, team, and friends.

How’s 2023 going for you?
My word for the year is foundation – to continue supporting my health, nourishing parts of myself that I have neglected, reworking things to support my neuro self in work and beyond.
As a part of this change, I think it’s time to welcome support into my business in order to grow and expand.
I’ve been needing some administrative support for some time. This year, one of my goals is to welcome a part-time assistant/course manager. I’m super excited and a bit nervous to take this step. This will help me focus on more of the work that I love, grow the business, and allow someone else to shine in their skills and talents as well.
Here’s a short description:
I’m looking for support, on average 10 hours a week. Ideally, a freelancer with a similar time zone for occasional meetings and timelines. 
As a chronically ill and neurodivergent service provider, I need a team member who can be an implementer in the business. I need someone I can count on and be in conversation with. Over the past few years, I have been struggling to do all of the things and need someone who can quickly learn these tasks and take them on. In addition, we have a back log of old projects to be finished, as and when possible. 
 
There is often some flexibility in when and how you complete the tasks. I am interested in delivering work that is high quality to my clients and community. Ideally, you are a self-starter, can figure out things without tons of guidance, and can take supportive feedback. I can easily arrange for times for sharing my processes and we can work together to document processes as well.
The pay will be between £15-£25 per hour. I’m open to a partial work-trade arrangement. Applicants need to get in touch by February 14, 2023 and then we will short list candidates for next steps.

Hiya,
It's been awhile. Since the move, I've laid low in my business. While some of it is positive, some of it has been about the deep work around acknowledging the shame I've carried - that shouldn't have been mine to carry, yet how it deeply impacted me. 
Part of it has been my focus on building systems and ways of planning and organizing that actually supported my neurodivergence. I'm sure I'll be talking more about that in the new year, but creating systems that actually support me is HUGE. And creating more space to take care of all of me is also a high priority right now. 
That being said, I am still starting on a few awesome projects on helping people implement ethical and inclusive practices and culture into their organizations or find more sustainable ways of being are also happening. This new project making sure that board members who are the backbone of this organization, get fairly compensated for their work and the impact on the wider community is something I'm looking forward to! But I digress. The reason I wanted to reach out to you today - I made a video. I stopped making videos and talking about my internal struggles in many ways because of this huge weight from shame and guilt that I have been carrying. I stopped showing up. I felt those judgements made about me, must be true. So I carried it alone for so long. And it has impacted me, my body, my well-being, and my soul. But I was brave and shared a little bit about my journey, my struggles, with carrying this heavy load and the impact that had on me and my body. I wanted to share the ways it was showing up, my own fears that those judgements were true, and how isolating it all felt. And as I began to confront these heavy pieces of shame that we're my own, something shifted internally. 
This probably will be the first video of many that I make sharing not just about me personally, but about building a business and doing our work in a way that changes lives and nourishes us and our clients and communities. 
This video is about 35 minutes. I do note, that I do mention trauma, assult, and abuse briefly, so do take care of yourself as you watch. And I would love for you to share in the comments about the shame you might be carrying and the ways you are releasing it. I promise to read and respond to every comment. It has felt like I have been shedding the layers of shame the last few weeks. And in it's place, I have felt hope and spaciousness that I have longed for but rarely felt. I feel the soil ready for planting new seeds of possibility and love again, in my heart as well as in my life and business.

To be honest, I have not done a real offer for these days since I've started my business, not in a concerted way. Are you ready to commit to inclusion and accessibility this season?

We recently had grief week in SPCS. We all shared where we were with grief and the way shifting our paradigms with capitalism & colonialism shifted something internally as well. And it felt like what has been showing up for many in the class and in my beyond has been a 'Tour of Grief'. 
I coined the term last week and it feels fitting. 
It feels like everyday is another day to grieve the world, the transitions, the loss. And it also feels like with each moment I allow the grief, allow the anger, allow the dissociation, allow the numbness, allow a tear, it brings me closer to a sense of wholeness. 
It opens something up that gives space for the next piece, the next step. 
This season has been tearing down things in my business and life and grieving them, but then also doing the intense 'ant' work of building anew. Like Joanna Macy shares, our tears of grief water the seeds so they grow.
Are you in a season of grief in your life or work? Are you grieving over the climate destruction and political climate? Are you giving yourself and your teams/family/communities space to have their own tour of grief? 
Making space for that is crucial. It feels almost revolutionary in a world that wants us to be productive and worry about survival every single moment. It's something quite when we give time sharing our grief, feeling our numbness, asking people how they REALLY are and listening to the answers that emerge. 
I read a line that will stick with me for a long time: 'Capitalism is the problem. Become aggressively anticapitalist in everything you do.' - Roderick Douglass. Honoring our grief is agressively anti-capitalist.

Your 'Tour of Grief'

It's been a whirlwind lately! It continues to be a juggling act to carry all that I hold and I notice how much more easeful I've been with it all despite the high levels of tension. 
Last week I met with Roseanne, an SPCS alumni and member! She was visiting London and we met over at the Greenwich Market. We had a great conversation about our times in London and travel, moving, releasing anger/resentment, and more while enjoying the lovely afternoon. (And yes, that's my kiddo - she's getting so big!)


We're on Week 3 in Sowing Post Capitalist Seeds: The Legacy of Colonialism. It's always an intense week. And alongside that: 
 I'm trying to wrap up pieces that will support all SPCS alumni (that announcement is coming just as quickly as the team and myself can get it done for you!). 
I'm still building the Discover 360 for Business/Ethical Business Blueprint resources. We took a huge step yesterday and now it's translating my brain words to paper! 
We're moving SPCS to a once-a-year class. Soon you'll be able to apply all year and put down your deposit or extended payment plan so you're all ready for September 2023. You'll be able to sign up as an individual or business owner (with extra business modules/support). 
Our ethical business networking is growing! We had several people show up earlier this week and I'm inviting even more people to join us going forward. Sign up for the next one in November. It's free and we have amazing discussions and connections. 
I've been continuing to change my approach from a long standing pattern of overwork work and under resourcing myself to more ease, fun, and thriving. I'm rolling out new pricing, swapping some offerings, and exploring some new models and approaches. We've also brought in some freelance help on small projects to help us move faster. 
We've got some community based events coming up later this year and early in 2023. Some of you might be getting personal invitations to contribute or participate! I'm going to have a tough time keeping it to myself!
We have a couple of paid events that you'll get a lot out of. Our Building What Comes Next event is coming up - we'll be talking about marketing, sales, and other ethical business strategies that are timely and important to integrate into your work. It's all new materials that I'm putting together - Oct 20. 
We are starting a tradition of an annual retreat. Eventually, it would be great to gather in person, but for now, we'll meet virtually. The theme this year is Nourish to Sustain. We'll be announcing our guest speakers soon, I hope it will be a nourishing space to process, heal, and create a foundation to sustain yourself and your important work. 
On a personal level:
a few of my medical and health containers have ended and I'm in a better place healthwise but I still have to be cautious. 
my kiddo is growing up too fast, we've recently celebrated her birthday. 
we've also had the sudden notice three weeks ago that we're going to have to move. It's a long story full of a few $%£* words but we're hopeful about a place that we've applied on to rent. We may move in (pending referencing) in a few weeks and I may have my own office in this space. 
Some of you have generously given in support of this move and it's more expensive rent (by £700 - the market is outrageous!). Thank you so much for your help. 
I'm learning how to stop overworking and creating better boundaries, not to mention moving from doing the work of 8-10 people to a more reasonable workload (in and outside of work!) It's going to be at least a couple more quarters of work to get where I want to go, but I'm making huge strides with help from my support team.

Whew. It's been a minute!

Recently, I dropped into an online networking for business owners. Within 5 minutes, I knew I was in the wrong place and I had to leave. 
- My name was misprounounced and when I tried to correct them, I was ignored. 
- One of the hosts conflated gender and sex; all females aren't women.
- And the proverbial last straw, they brought up the Christmas season in a way that suggested it's something we all value and celebrate.
The concerning part, was one of the hosts is a DEI expert.
When we think of inclusive and accessible environments, people tend to think about ramps and braille. We definitely need more accessbility for physical disabilities, and sorts of things are just as important to consider.
We don't need to erase our own holy days but we can acknowledge the Christian hegemony in our society.
We don't need to erase or ignore our own gender, but we can't overlook trans and non-binary people's identity.
We might not always be able to pronounce every word or name perfectly, but we can make an effort to listen and practice.
Let’s slow down and have conversations around building ethical businesses together. That’s what Ethical Business Networking is about.

Ethical Business Networking today

Because of complex trauma, feeling into my body and my feelings can be difficult. And because of cultural and familial trauma, suppressing anger has been a crucial survival mechanism.
In the past couple of weeks, the rage has been coming up to the surface more easily, especially around certain more sensitive pieces around injustice, disrespect, and neglect.
More often, in the past, I could feel injustice done to others more than I could relate to the injustice done to me. I would feel outrage and defend people, but believed I deserved the rotten behavior or I could easily gaslight myself of that fact.
Now that my brain is registering the truth with more ease, my feelings are coming up to the surface, especially this deep rage.
It feels important to honor it and listen to it, but it also is requiring a lot of my body to process it all.
Yes, I'm working with professionals in therapy and so on, so I'm definitely in good hands. And I have a steady practice to support me. One of the things that got me through the difficult times was visioning what was coming and holding that anger as a powerful force and rudder to guide me.

I often reflect on the powerful words of Audre Lorde, The Uses of Anger. Channeling that anger into the work of good. Creating boundaries that support us. Speaking with courage and conviction. Linking arms in solidarity to resist what is and building something new - something beyond the current paradigm and status quo.

On Processing Rage

Hiya! 
I had a dream the other night about the close, devoted friendship of Lord Krishna and Arjuna in the Mahabharata.
I have fond memories of my grandfather telling us stories from the Mahabharata or reading the Amar Chitra Katha graphic stories as a child.
For days now, I keep remembering the times that Krishna helped the Pandavas, for example he helped Draupadi with food when she couldn't feel their guests when they were in exile and he build Indraprasta with them - toiling along side them.
And I was thinking about how when it comes time for war, Duryodana and Arjuna both approach Sri Krishna for support. Duryodana elects for Krishna's armies, yet Arjuna accepts Sri Krishna as his charioteer. 

It's then, on the battlefield when they have that beautiful conversation that we now know as the Bhagavad Gita.
I have thought about how devotional relationships like that are transformative, how much I feel moved by watching them, living in them. I think about my own devotional practices and the stories that I tell through my dance in my Bharata Natyam practice. 

Would I rather have nameless, faceless armies of people who will not know me and who will fight for their cause, or would I rather have close personal friends who would be with me through thick and thin? Would you?
I know life doesn't offer neatly defined choices that most of the time. But the intimacy and vulnerability of devotion has always spoken to me.
I think in my past, I allowed that devotional part of me to be exploited because I couldn't find the boundaries. I couldn't understand why everyone wasn't direct, honest, willing to link arms. Part of that comes from complex trauma and part of it was a Pollyanna approach, looking for good, by passing the warnings and trying to have faith. I did myself a grave disservice, because in allowing people to use my devotion to further their ends at the expense of my well-being.
But those relationships, like that of the relationship to the land of the Sonoran Desert that has always held a special place in my heart. The partnership with the water, this precious life giving liquid. The transformation relationship with my life partner has been one of the most devotional friendships I have ever experienced.
I share this, because it illustrates the pieces for building something new, something beyond what we currently have. 

Before I met Peter, I knew what I wanted but hadn't yet experienced it. I had read stories of devotion and love but when I felt it, things changed.

<div class="mirror-content">​Hiya! ​I had a dream the other night about the close, devoted friendship of Lord Krishna and Arjuna in the Mahabharata.​I have fond memories of my grandfather telling us stories from the Mahabharata or reading the Amar Chitra Katha graphic stories as a child.​For days now, I keep remembering the times that Krishna helped the Pandavas, for example he helped Draupadi with food when she couldn&#x27;t feel their guests when they were in exile and he build Indraprasta with them - toiling along side them.​And I was thinking about how when it comes time for war, Duryodana and Arjuna both approach Sri Krishna for support. Duryodana elects for Krishna&#x27;s armies, yet Arjuna accepts Sri Krishna as his charioteer.  It&#x27;s then, on the battlefield when they have that beautiful conversation that we now know as the Bhagavad Gita.​I have thought about how devotional relationships like that are transformative, how much I feel moved by watching them, living in them. I think about my own devotional practices and the stories that I tell through my dance in my Bharata Natyam practice. Would I rather have nameless, faceless armies of people who will not know me and who will fight for their cause, or would I rather have close personal friends who would be with me through thick and thin? Would you?​I know life doesn&#x27;t offer neatly defined choices that most of the time. But the intimacy and vulnerability of devotion has always spoken to me.​I think in my past, I allowed that devotional part of me to be exploited because I couldn&#x27;t find the boundaries. I couldn&#x27;t understand why everyone wasn&#x27;t direct, honest, willing to link arms. Part of that comes from complex trauma and part of it was a Pollyanna approach, looking for good, by passing the warnings and trying to have faith. I did myself a grave disservice, because in allowing people to use my devotion to further their ends at the expense of my well-being.​But those relationships, like that of the relationship to the land of the Sonoran Desert that has always held a special place in my heart. The partnership with the water, this precious life giving liquid. The transformation relationship with my life partner has been one of the most devotional friendships I have ever experienced.​I share this, because it illustrates the pieces for building something new, something beyond what we currently have. Before I met Peter, I knew what I wanted but hadn&#x27;t yet experienced it. I had read stories of devotion and love but when I felt it, things changed. On devotion and building what comes next

While the Tories are crashing the pound and driving our economy into the ground, many of us are continuing to link arms and push for change, here and around the world. Those movements of change and resistance live strongly in my heart.
 Last week, I took the week off to celebrate my daughter's birthday! It was only yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital (or at least it feels like that!). What an inspiring young adult she is becoming.
It feels like my neurodivergent brain needs hates inertia, so stopping working and then restarting after a break are difficult transitions! I hear from other creative folks, that this is a thing for them too. What about you?
In addition, it feels like I'm in the middle of recalibration of sorts, especially in the ways I relate to people. I'm having a discussion on what makes strong partnerships over on my FB wall, chime in if you have thoughts. It's definitely time to create some stronger boundaries in my work, bring back in more group discussions and video/written content, and raising my prices.
The cost of living crisis is hitting hard and I want to be able to share my needs with greater ease. Previously, I would have subsumed my needs and hidden my feelings and chronic health things. I'm learning a new path with it all.
We've got public sector strikes continuing into the fall--#StandByYourPost (Royal Mail strikes) and RMT as well various other transport and train operators striking as well. But it looks like further austerity and public sector cuts are likely. Between high food prices and energy costs, it feels like a long, cold winter ahead. Yet, we must be considering what comes next. What do we do to push back against these far right and capitalistic policies, especially in our work and businesses?
 This month's theme is: Building Beyond Capitalism--what comes next? That's what I hope to be be covering in some of the events we have lined up this season.

Sharing what's new this season!

“All that you touch you change. All that you change changes you. The only lasting truth is change.” by the great Octavia Butler.
I reflect on these words frequently as I finish each course I teach. This cohort for Sowing Post Capitalist Seeds for Business finished today.
We had a beautiful journey of 14 weeks, diving into building an ethical business, imagining what comes next in our precious work, making it more equitable and re-imagining the landscape to something beyond capitalism.
We went through a season of planting our seeds of change together and Thursday, we ended by sharing where we were, as we continued to integrate our lessons.
At the very end, the cohort shared heartfelt words about my facilitation, my vulnerability and transparency, and my curation of the resources and the ways I presented things. What a beautiful moment.
This experience of teaching always changes me, even after dozens of courses and thousands of students. This particular round, I gained a confidence in teaching and sharing about frameworks for building an ethical business, one that acknowledges our needs and capacity.
And as I wrap up this course, I look towards next week and the beginning of the next course. 
I want words to wrap it all up, but all I can say is that I'm grateful and exhausted in equal measure.

The only lasting truth is change 

I don't know about you, but I see so many people not having what they need to feed their passion projects- whether for business, professional development, personal pet projects, or community work. 
So many of you are burnt out trying to breathe live into your projects. 
Unfortunately, there's an overwhelming sense of living a life of piety or poverty when people think about ethical or anti-capitalist projects or organizations.                                  
But I don't think we need to be burnt out to bring our important work to life. Often times embracing sustainability and rejecting the typical capitalist thinking of running ourselves into the ground is the starting point. We need to deeply shift this thinking in our ways of being. 
That's what we focus on in our 14-week foundation course. We'll be digging into the ways capitalism impacts our ways of being and the ways we show up.

If you are an entrepreneur or professional or parent or just any human invested in healing internalized capitalism, moving ethically and, particularly if you're BIPOC, really prioritizing being ethical and kind to yourself in and outside of business, I couldn't recommend a program more.

I don't want you to burn out

Let's face it.
More and more consumers, especially Millennials and Gen Z - we want to feel aligned with their buying habits and choices. On the whole, we would prefer to support a business or organization focused on sustainable and ecologically practices, ones that support the local and world-wide community, and ones that pay their workers and have more equitable practices in place. 
As you can see, a cursory thought to running an ethical business is no longer an option for an organization operating in our current paradigm. We must integrate this wisdom into our day-to-day business operations, into our team dynamics and vendor choices, and the ways we service our customers.
We need to be actively making the pivots, in our families, in our communities, in our leadership, in our companies, in our government for something different than rampant and unchecked capitalism. 
But how do you make the necessary changes in your approach, not just personally, but professionally as well?
It feels strange to be marketing a course on post capitalism as simultaneously we're facing a recession, global pandemic, climate destruction, and millions of people don't have access to food, water, shelter, health care, and education. Yet, one of the most important jobs that I have had in my adult life, is doing the paradigm shifting work of shining a light on the ways colonial and capitalistic indoctrination shape who we are what what we do. This work is more necessary than ever before. 
Sowing Post Capitalist Seeds is a love letter, a course that Moriah and I created together to plant the seeds of change for the world.

It's no longer an option to ignore this

I hear this all of the time. In fact, I saw a meme going around social media last week and had to share it with you. I couldn't find the creator to give them credit. 

It says, "'But what can I do, I'm a just one person,' said 7 billion people." 
It's easy to feel hopeless or overwhelmed. The situation is pretty dire and you wouldn't be wrong to feel overwhelmed and unsure how you can make a difference. 
But that is a lie. 
We can all do something and in fact, if we're going to make the changes we need, we need us ALL to act. Many movements that created real change is because of 1 person speaking up and taking action. And many movements were built by people working together, have even more of an impact. 
And that's exactly what we cover in our the upcoming Sowing Post Capitalist Seeds Foundation course. 
We start next week and in 14 weeks, you could have a personalized anti-capitalist practice in place. We often hear from former students 1-2 years later, saying they have built that foundation and have had a deep internal and external transformation in the ways they show up in their lives, their work, their relationships, and their communities.

Are you on the fence?

Many, too many, people focus on liberatory work in one direction. YES, that work is important.
But it’s crucial to understand that systems of oppression work in many directions simultaneously. For example, it’s not JUST racism at play. Even the ‘flavor’ of racism varies from the space and the specific colonial action. For example, we have settler colonialism, orientalism, anti-blackness, and colorism to name a few.
And it’s really unhelpful to look only at racism, without also looking at other aspects of oppression like gender, class, disability, queerness, poverty, education, access, size, religion, citizenship, and so on. Actually, without analysis or understanding of how these things intersect, we’ll miss out on creating a truly liberatory praxis. 
The thing is capitalism has inexplicably linked systemic oppression, dehumanization, productivity/worth and climate destruction. If we’re only pulling at one piece without understanding or seeing the connected pieces, we inevitably replicate the same power structures. It’s like my what my dad told me about weeding, we needed to get them out roots and all, otherwise they would grow right back.
In our businesses, just looking at racism might mean we focus on ‘diversity initiatives’ that only lead to tokenism or making BIPOC scholarships without making our spaces inclusive to support BIPOC. We must look at racism and the myriad of ways it impacts our businesses and work to address the systemic pieces with a multi-pronged strategy for inclusion and equity. 
Same thing with capitalism.
We need to have a wider discussion and a multifaceted approach to dismantling it and building something beyond capitalism. That's where our course comes in. 
Join Moriah and I as we take our next cohort on a 14-week journey on understanding how these things fit together and create your own personalized praxis. You’ll have a chance to design and fine tune your praxis based on what your circumstances, needs, capacity, and community, with others who in our course. We invite you to apply. We also have a small library of previous guest speakers: Amy Green on Anti-capitalist astrology, Elinor Predota on capitalism, J.L. Umipig and Melanie Dewberry with perpectives around freeing ourselves from colonialism, and several others! 
For those in the business track will have access to several guest speakers in our library: Faith Clarke talking about on-boarding and building trust for teams, Anu Priya talking about taking care of ourselves as business owners, and Lakshmia Marie talking about living our values and supporting our teams in workspaces.

1) We need someone who is well versed to talk about Body Liberation from an anti-capitalist perspective
2) We need someone who can speak to land-ethic from a place of Land Back/Indigenous perspectives.

Our guest speakers are essential to the course! They bring perspectives and topics that Moriah and I can't and they are often a piece that our former participants have learned so much from. 
Like I mentioned on my email on Monday, if you're ready to examine your privilege, be willing to make the necessary sacrifices and do the real work but unsure where to start, Sowing Post Capitalist Seeds is an excellent foundation on not only what capitalism is, but how you can make your own anti-capitalist practice that serves you and your community. 
Here's what a former participant shared: This course has given me the foundational tools to move forward with anti-fascist, anti-capitalist and anti-racist work with a more acutely critical, structural and political lens. It was exactly the primer I needed. All of the information was laid out right in front of me. Just like A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, we'll be looking at the ghosts of Capitalism past, Capitalism present, and Capitalism yet to come.
Like many of us, you know the current system of capitalism is literally crushing us, yet it's hard to know what to do. How do we create something new, while surviving the onslaught of climate destruction, rising transphobia and racism, price gouging by big corporations, while food and housing insecurity are on the rise. Where do we find our center, let alone imagine something new to nurture and build? We'll be diving into exactly how we can grieve the past, root ourselves in the present, and start to play with the blank canvas that is our future. It's a space to reimagine what comes next and finding our place in that.

Another ethical business networking event today, will you join us?

I had thoughts about the on-going of the royal family this weekend and wrote about it. What I've noticed over the past few days and the larger trends over the last few years. It's galling and that's the part I'm mourning. 
'I was fairly vocal about the harms of empire during Kate & William's wedding as well as Meghan & Harry's wedding. Actually, I remember really being critical over how many POC (and of course society at large) were celebrating it all, when a) they were moving the homeless along the route to the wedding instead of giving them a helping hand, b) that the family still receives public money and money from on-going colonialism, c) that have more diverse 'rulers' didn't mean that things were going to change - in fact, this would be used against POC and Meghan in particular, and d) we shouldn't be upholding harmful institutions and the propaganda they put out.
And I personally felt pain in my body as the rage and intergenerational trauma played through my body--much like it has been again this weekend.
I was basically told to 'shut up' then - through financial retaliation and made to suffer alone because of chronic illness (my migraines had started during that time, making it harder to maintain what was or do outreach/marketing).
Thankfully, I am in a better place, where I was able to release much of it and allow that energy to channel into some other projects, but I digress.
And you know what, I lost a lot of business and business connections over having these opinions in those situations. Yet look now, how many more people are being vocal about this now and it's great that people are sharing the real horrors of colonialism and more people are listening. (There is literally libraries of information that were shared on social media the past few days and if you're not in the know, read some of it!).
Yet, there are some Black women being actively 'canceled' because of their opinions over their genuine feelings of rage over the queen and institution she represented (and did nothing to actively apologize, actively dismantle, or actively offer reparations for her entire reign. This is not ok. Colonized people actively telling the truth and sharing their rage and pain, and they are told to shut up and facing the threat of their jobs. Sigh.
And there are some are back sliding from their support of Black Lives Mattering and Land Back, softly, softly. Once again trying to play both sides of this, to hedge their bets to not lose income from their conservative supporters but also make sure they still seem accessible and 'woke' enough for their more progressive and leftist clients.
I've seen a number of charities and businesses, seeking DEI support, going as far to put out statements and open calls for proposals and reaching out. And the a similar group of them putting out statements in support of the royal family in light of the recent happenings. Look, you can't have it both ways. Take a stand for something, follow through with conviction, put your money where your mouth is. It's not a game to win business or win approval ratings. Literally if you've been through the last few years and you still think wearing a safety pin or ribbon to show solidarity or publicly saying one things but allowing POC or other historically marginalized groups to harmed in your spaces or conversations, and that is ok, let me tell you, it's NOT.
If that's your behavior, you're not just doing nothing, you're actively harmful to the liberatory world that me and so many others hold dear. In fact, it's not different than the behavior of the energy companies, price gouge to get the maximum value of the fossil fuel industry and hold back any social change or renewable technology, but being ready to jump to renewables when the wind turns. It's gross.
Knowing you have to give up your privilege but not willing to make the necessary sacrifices or do the real work but waiting for the narrative to shift so you can be on the side of 'good' when it's popular and profitable.
We see you. And it's not good enough.'

Mourning the lack of commitment

Right now we have workers on strike basically doing what they can to save our criminal justice system, our communication system, our postal system, our public transport system, and soon they will be joined by those trying to save our NHS and public education system too. Even right wing journalists who have been ardently against the strike action, have joined the ranks of striking workers lately.
The greed of the rich and the ruling class has no limits. Their greed comes at the cost of our solidarity, our land, our joy, and ultimately, our lives.
It's often hard to know what to do when there is just so much that needs doing to push for systemic change. In all honesty, if we want to create a society for all of us to thrive, then we must roll up our sleeves, pick our post, link arms with community, and push for the change.
Where do we start? How do we do this? How do we deal with our rage and grief? How do make this sustainable and even regenerative?
Our course is focused on answering the question: How can we thrive in our lives, work, relationships, and communities as we integrate the praxis of anti-capitalism?
This will be the 7th time we offer the Foundation course to the world. We've had students join us from all walks of life and from all over the world.
If you're wondering what you can do in the current upheaval : climate destruction, rising corporate greed leading to inflation, political gridlock, rising fascism and injustice, this is what I can offer you. This seed of hope, this 14-week journey with others who are similarly grappling with the bigger questions and are ready to do something.

We need both, the challenge to shape our ideas and the solidarity from community to go far.

Even right wing journalists who have been ardently against the strike action, have joined the ranks of striking workers lately.​The greed of the rich and the ruling class has no limits. Their greed comes at the cost of our solidarity, our land, our joy, and ultimately, our lives.​It&#x27;s often hard to know what to do when there is just so much that needs doing to push for systemic change. In all honesty, if we want to create a society for all of us to thrive, then we must roll up our sleeves, pick our post, link arms with community, and push for the change.​Where do we start? How do we do this? How do we deal with our rage and grief? How do make this sustainable and even regenerative?​Our course is focused on answering the question: How can we thrive in our lives, work, relationships, and communities as we integrate the praxis of anti-capitalism?​This will be the 7th time we offer the Foundation course to the world. We&#x27;ve had students join us from all walks of life and from all over the world.​If you&#x27;re wondering what you can do in the current upheaval : climate destruction, rising corporate greed leading to inflation, political gridlock, rising fascism and injustice, this is what I can offer you. I've been sitting with and actively moving my feet on how to make this work feel more generative and more nourishing to myself and of course, nourish all of you in turn. I have been working from a place of burn out and chronic illness the past 2 years and it's getting to me.
And I know I'm not suppose to share this, but I feel I need to, in full transparency. I've been barely paying myself half of the UK minimum wage the past 2 years. It's weird to admit that in a note to you all, but it's the real picture. Hence, I need to make this work more sustainable but nourishing me - because without me the course or any of the other SPCS things simply wouldn't happen or continue. It's a heavy thought to ponder. Because ultimately, I want this work to flourish - we'll need the wisdom, the connections, the praxis going forward. And I have met so many of you amazing people along the way. 

It's really highlighting that I need better boundaries and long term support in the form of a part-time assistant.
I've modestly increased the lower tier for our SPCS Foundation course this fall and added some new tiers, including a formal Business rate (with extra support and modules). I'm hoping these changes help me pay myself better (especially in this cost of living crisis) and have something to offer a part-time support person.
Over the next few days, I'll be sharing some ways you can support our launch. And always, you're welcome to contibute monthly via our Patreon or BMAC.

This month, we also have another wonderful SPCS Quarterly training with Jamie and Murphy- two SPCS alumni! It's on August 29th - you still have a few days to get your tickets. I'll share a bit more soon.

A vulnerable moment with Anuradha

I'm going to be taking next week off to do some DEEP work on resources for Ethical Business building. And I have a question for you..
First, about why I approach deep work like this:
The writing and creating buzz is hitting me and you'll see me taking a bit of time off to capture this energy. I'm using the idea that Daniel Pink shares in Drive — 20% time. He describes an Australian software company that uses so called 'FedEx' or 20% time in their company. They call it FedEx time because they 'deliver' on something cool. 
Basically, the concept is to put aside some time regularly (5-20%) to work on a project. Google has given their employees this time to work on internal projects with anyone else in the company and given the resources to do this. This is how Google Translate and Gmail were created. Yes, it's a less than ethical company, however, this particular praxis is excellent for small businesses to use. 
I combine this with learnings from Leela Sinha. Leela created a framework for intensives — individuals who work better in bursts, where they work very deeply on a project for a time. Zi (they use neopronouns) contrasts with expansives who are more comfortable with consistent effort. I am an 8 on zi's SEIF index. It makes sense to create pockets of time to create for me instead of trying to schedule this time regularly. 
What's your approach making time/space/resources for big projects and the non-everyday types of deep work in your organization?
This deep work week is going to be focused on creating the resources and worksheets  for my new services, Start up 360 and Discover 360 for Business, especially around personalized ways to make sustainable change in their business. 
Some of the challenges I see small businesses facing when it may be time to embrace strategies around ethical, sustainable, and personalized business solutions:
low repeat business, high employee turnover 
low morale, a sense of overwhelm and dread in facing business decisions
lack of clarity with vision, direction, and action
lack of systems and structures to support and sustain the business
lack of leadership, low ownership of ideas, tasks, and systems
The two types of documents will be a) honing their identity as an enterprise and b) coming up with their unique approach and principles to their ethical business in terms of sales, marketing, finances etc. 
So I come back to you, what would serve you? Yes, these resources I'm making, are for clients, but I also want to make something useful to you all. Is there problem that you're bumping up against that maybe I could make a small resource to support you? Respond directly to this email and I'll consider it! And yes, I will respond to you.

How can I support your efforts towards building an ethical business?

Hi everyone!
I wanted the thank the folks who showed up live to the first Ethical Business Networking session this week. I am looking forward to hosting this monthly. 
I started the discussion by sharing a bit about my new consulting service, for small businesses. You'll be hearing more about this over the coming weeks. In fact, if you're not keen on building an ethical business or post capitalism, you'll maybe get a bit too much about resources and content about this! I'm hoping since you're here, it's something that light you up just as much as it lights me up. 

Mainly, I am looking for people to support me in finding referrals who are ready, willing, and able to dive into to working with me to create their personalized ethical business blueprint and honing their core identity as they grow and scale their business. I'm working on resources about this for my TKC Ambassadors. It's a way to support us as we grow, but also I want to make resources for you all as well — sharing sneak peeks and resources that you can use in your enterprise as well. You can sign up here. 
We then had a great, vulnerable discussion on where we all shared where we are in our business. It was lovely to hear the variety of projects and focuses we have in this community. Themes that came up, relationality and the myriad of ways, doing this work in a way that goes beyond the current exploitative model, the importance of money, making time for what matters, and juggling life things with work things in a way that brings ease and joy and survival.

As a giggle of the day, I wanted to share this: (image of a tweet that says: british people struggling in this heat wave..stay strong..your ancestors colonized entire countries in this heat). 


But seriously, it's concerning that the media, government, and major companies are overlooking the issue and still nothing to name and address the root cause, capitalism. 
We're covering grief this week in Sowing Post Capitalist Seeds for Business. And it is a reminder of the importance of making space for grief in our lives and work. Do you have a grief practice in your work? 
This is one of the things I talked about in a recent chat with Faith Clarke - you can check out our ~28 minute chat here. (Quick note, you'll need to opt in with your email to get access). 
And on the positive here, there are several worker led movements happening here right now that give me hope. We have a confluence of strike and other industrial action happening in both the public and private sectors: communication, transportation, legal, health, financial, and so on. And it continues to grow. I am in full support of labor getting their fair share of the wealth they have created through better pay, working conditions, and benefits. 

I am planning a free monthly networking session for small business owners and trusted friends, a 60-minute virtual networking session focusing on a specific topic. This time I was hoping to discuss creating our ethical business blueprint, in a time of recession and climate destruction. You can sign up for our chat directly here.

It's hot and (networking invitation inside)!

Hiya! I missed you. 
I know, I disappeared for a couple of weeks. I meant to take a few days off after SPCS for Business started to rest and refresh. 
But life had other plans! We had a plumbing emergency that turned into the ceiling in the kitchen collapsing and our landlady refusing to do the repairs because she doesn't have insurance. She intends to force the council to pay for the damages instead. It's been exhausting. 
That whole incident really distracted me and put us all in crisis mode. We're ok now, but the state of the kitchen and when it will be fixed is still on my mind. We have considered the possibility of moving. It's going to be expensive and I just don't know if I have the spoons.
In that direction, I have some spaces open for my Discover 360°. It's a container where we dive into who you are, what you're hear to do, and creating life/work/relationships that align with your essence and ways of being. I've worked with over 35 people in this work and from a practical level, The most common things we hear after working together: our clients feel recommitted to their purpose and their why, they embrace their idosyncracies and unique patterns as strengths not defects, they stop judging themselves and feel a deep sense of peace and acceptance of who they are, they act with more clarity and decisiveness moving forward. 
I've had clients leave abusive relationships, relocate to a different country, change professional fields or move into more purposeful work, start selling their art or embark in writing professionally, save their business partnership or grow their business sustainably and ethically. While these aren't guaranteed results, it reflects the diversity of clients and their situations.
As you can see, you can't just 'buy now', I'm selective on who I work with, because it's a deeply intimate work and I am holding space for the possibility of huge change while we work together and beyond. 
Discover 360° is an intimate container, 5 calls together and 3 months of support. It's one of my favorite ways to work privately with people. Right now, until the end of the year, I have 6 open slots. Many people are drawn to this work when they are in times of transition and ready for deep, aligned change. 
Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing some resources, events, and insights about doing this work in relation to building an ethical business and why understanding who we are and our essence matters and is at the heart of doing aligned and ethical work in the world.

She intends to force the council to pay for the damages instead. It&#x27;s been exhausting. ​That whole incident really distracted me and put us all in crisis mode. We&#x27;re ok now, but the state of the kitchen and when it will be fixed is still on my mind. We have considered the possibility of moving. You're invited! 

I dislike conversations that are moving so fast that it feels like you're stepping into oncoming traffic to join in and say something, praying that they'll stop in time.

I always feel like I'm being weird in those spaces. I may have something I want to share or ask, or even just be included, but it continues nonetheless.

Sometimes I wonder if I notice and it bugs me more because of my love of inclusion and creating a culture of belonging. Sometimes I wonder if I notice it because of my own neurodiversity, that my ways of expressing myself aren't always seen as normal. And sometimes, I think because I've had lots of experience in listening for subtext and studying rhetoric, knowing that most of our communication is non-verbal.

I'm not sure this is an intentional action that the ones in charge are making, they are probably doing this without thinking. Yet, we must always think of impact over intent.

Either way, it's something that doesn't have to be, it can be improved by intentional action and accountability. We must shift the very way we navigate or hold space for others.

Imagine all of the traffic lights were made for the fastest to cross the street or our customer support involves staying on the phone for hours on hold (both of these still happen). These choices in the ways we deliver a service include certain folks and exclude others.

Inclusive discussions allow for pauses for people to collect their thoughts, signposts or summaries to highlight important points, and space for everyone to contribute in a meaningful way (in a modality that supports them).

Let's think about a culture of care, where there is space for all voices, not just a select few.

As business owners and non-profit founders, money is on our minds, A LOT. How do we engage with money, currency, and power? How can we move from this space of late stage capitalism, survival and dare I say thrive, through to what follows with grace and integrity intact?
How do we run businesses and organizations that leave a legacy of impact while juggling the , financials to pay ourselves, pay our labour force, and redistribute to the community in a judicious way?

I'm also inspired by movements, new (and old) ways of being with money and in relationship. I'm inspired by agile and innovative ideas. I'm inspired by new narratives and ways of framing that liberate us and have us move beyond oppressive systems.

Money, money, money ...

For the past few days, I have had this ear worm in my brain - Santogold 'Creator'. 
I love that she addresses the 'fronting' that happens in the entertainment industry (and beyond). That beyond the facade, we're in fact someone different, pretending and acting for fame and platform. In an interview with Fader magazine, she shares, "I'm an old school artist. I don't care about looking the part all the time, and in the modern entertainer world it's all about looking the part. In fact, you don't even have to have anything beyond that. If you look the part then you are the part. I just can't be bothered half the time."
To be honest, I find that so relatable. I see many in business doing this same game of pretense. As someone who lives with disability, I can't keep up with that. I can't contantly be in a state of curated presence. And I can't help but thinking, our audiences, our communities, our people, our teams are exhausted by the pretense both playing into it and not knowing what to believe in the world and those around us. 
She rejects this wholeheartedly in this piece. And then comes my favorite line: 
“You say no; I say yes I was chosen. And I will deliver the explosion.”
And I'm reclaiming this for myself as well. I have felt, like many of you, topsy turvy in these turbulent times. 
And this work around building an ethical business and embracing a post capitalist stance is too important to forget. It's why I did a massive pivot in my business to be able to focus on this. 
Let's do this work together. Let's stop playing the game, hiding behind a facade. Let's stop propping up this crumbling system and let's build the new — together. You don't have to figure this out alone or allow exploitation, hierarchy, and capitalist frameworks crush you, your team, your clients, and your communities. Good morning from London! 

I'm at my desk rather early today and you've been on my mind. 

I was meant to be a delegate at our union's conference in Belfast last week, but alas, they made no provisions for mask wearing and didn't offer a virtual option to participate. More and more companies are behaving like this and it's so harmful--especially to the most vulnerable populations. 

Just last week, we were at the park over the Jubilee bank holidays. As it was a bit crowded we wore our masks, and someone shouted at us, 'the pandemic is over' mockingly. Yet it's far from over. People are still dying (several hundred a day here in the UK) and long covid is still a thing. 

I fear it will go back to how it was before, vulnerable folks being isolated and alone without services. One of the things I want to be able to do in this work and within our community, is to keep our services accessible AND being able to uplift community members through mutual aid and giving them a platform to share their work. 

I'd love to hear from you, how are you coping? What's going on with you?

Thanks for signing up for our conversation today. It was a blast to share some of my thoughts on building an ethical business!
I started by sharing a little bit about the difference between commerce and capitalism and some of the historical roots of capitalism as it pertains to business. I could have spent many hours talking about this piece alone! 
We also explored why we might want to do this work and what happens if we don't get it right. It's likely we all make missteps in our work from time to time, even if we do the work--that is part of the work. But I mean causing harm without being accountable and transparent. When we're only focused on profits we'll resort to hierarchy and exploitation. 
Then we dived into the 3 part framework I use with all of my private clients to build their bespoke businesses and strategy for building an ethical business.
