How can we craft compelling literary fiction? How does an editor approach writing a novel?

Niamh Mulvey is an acclaimed author, editor, and writing coach. Her debut novel, The Amendments, delves into the lives of three generations of women. It’s an extraordinary novel about love and freedom, belonging and rebellion—and about how our past is a vital presence that sits alongside us.

Join us for a conversation with Niamh as we discuss how she crafted The Amendments and what she’s learned from her experiences in the publishing industry as both an author and an editor.

We’ll also discuss:

  • Insights from her role as an editor at Hachette

  • Transitioning from a short story collection to writing a novel

  • Exploring themes in The Amendments

  • Overcoming rejection and her path to publication after submitting two novels

  • The realities of freelancing as an editor
