How can we balance our research and writing time? When do we know it’s time to stop researching for a project?
In this workshop with Alia Amir, we’ll explore the topic of time management for research projects. We’ll explore techniques for allocating time effectively to different aspects of the research and writing process, such as data collection, analysis, drafting, and revision.
In this session, writers will learn:
The benefits of creating a project timeline to visualise deadlines to facilitate effective project management
How to break down complex research or writing projects into smaller, manageable tasks
The significance of setting both short-term and long-term goals to maintain momentum and track progress
How to identify high-priority tasks and allocate resources accordingly to ensure efficient progress towards project completion
Accompanying worksheets for all attendees will be shared before the workshop.
About Alia Amir
Alia Amir is a research associate at SOAS, University of London. She is a social scientist researching various aspects of language use in society, including language policy, focusing on English and multilingualism. She is also a committee member and the event organiser for the Multilingualism SIG (Special interest group) of the British Association of Applied Linguistics (BAAL). She has been teaching Sociolinguistics and English linguistics including academic writing and research supervision at the tertiary level for the past fifteen years. Her latest book Language Policing In The Classroom by Palgrave will be published in the Spring of 2024.
