AI Challenge - Get Involved and learn about using AI to solve energy problems!
How can Artificial Intelligence be used to solve some of the industries toughest problems?
We know that Artificial Intelligence is a powerful tool to solve difficult problems, so why not see if we can use it to help tackle the problems facing your Company, such as managing the energy transition, providing energy affordability or the race to reduce carbon emissions?
You may have been thinking about solving some problems with AI, but don’t know where or how to start?
So in true startup form, we decided to learn by doing. So let’s get started!
How it works?
ETH is making an open call to our community to pose problems that they think AI can solve to enhance the operation of our energy system.
Some potential problem areas could include:
Reliability
Affordability
Transition
Other problems, such as climate change, resilience or other issues that affect the energy system.
These are only some ideas. We are open to any difficult problems to solve! So get involved and let’s Challenge the machine!

The AI solutions could be in one of the following domains:
Computer Vision
Data Preparation / Wrangling
Machine learning
Natural Language Processing
Remote Sensing
We will work with the ETH community and select a few problem statements; we will workshop these problems with the group; and determine which problem is best suited to the Challenge.
Our partner OMDENA, and their team of volunteer AI experts are keen to work on meaningful projects, and will launch a global call for AI experts to work on solving the Challenge.
The ETH community will participate in reviewing the progress of the team and observing the development process of the solution. The final solution will be presented as a showcase.
Why participate?
You will learn how AI can be applied to different problem areas in energy and how to define that problem.
You will get to understand a little more about the different AI domains and how you might apply them in your work.
You may get a difficult problem solved!
How much time is involved?
With a community approach you will get real value with just a few hours per month over the course of the Challenge.
