Citizen Spotlight #3: Open Collective and Social Change Nest

​​Join us for our 3rd Citizen Spotlight call, where we chat with Pia Mancini - and Ester Foreman.

​Between them, Pia Mancini and Esther Foreman have made Open Collective open and accessible to community organisations across the UK, so they can get started with their work quickly and easily, without having to spend time on admin ahead of action.

Nuts and bolts, OC is a platform that enables a combination of open budgeting and crowdfunding - totally transparent incomings and outgoings. That transparency is what effectively replaces the admin: because anyone can see what’s going on, that is the governance.

We’re signed up on OC as the Citizen Collective, but mostly this call is going to be about the stories of these two very special humans.

Pia, originally from Argentina, is one of the original OC cofounders. She and I have known each other a good few years, dating back to her 1m+ TED talk on “Upgrading Democracy for the Broadband Era” (link in comments), and her work on the pioneering Partido de la Red (The Network Party) in Argentina.

Esther Foreman, for her part, is a serial civic and social entrepreneur who created The Social Change Nest to unleash the potential of OC in the UK. As founder also of The Social Change Agency and many other initiatives besides.
