About Event

If you received the link to this private invite, then that means we want you to register to be part of a Meeting of the Minds on the Actual Risks of Generative AI that will be held in the Shack15 club in the Ferry Building in San Francisco on the evening of July 27th.

This exclusive gathering promises to be just as exciting and important as the first event that Bloomberg wrote about in the cover story of this month's Businessweek or the second gathering in late June on all the positive potential of this new general purpose technology.

This time we will talk through what are the actual risks of GenAI that need to be addressed - not the hyped up fears about human extinction that are gaining attention in the media. We will have a nuanced conversation on the responsible way forward that can make the most of this new tech while avoiding secondary harms.

We expect to max out with 200 innovators from a wide range of networks in the region including some key political leaders, founders of the new crop of GenAI startups, leaders of well-known tech firms, academics, activists and journalists. Pretty much everyone in the room will have relevant expertise or perspectives to add to the mix of the program and the party that will follow for us all to cross-connect.

We'd love to have you in the mix too but everyone must register, and we know there will be more people who want to attend than we can accommodate. This event system by default puts everyone on a waiting list that we will monitor and approve as people sign up over time.

More details are below on what to expect, and check out what we already accomplished in our last two gatherings in our new Substack series too.

Key Details of July 27th Evening Event at Shack15

Curator: The cohost and curator of the conversation will be Peter Leyden, who worked with the founders of WIRED and watched the beginnings of the last transformation of this scale, the digital revolution. He's spent the last 25 years connecting up key networks in the region.

Agenda: Each event will start in the Shack15 club on the second floor of the Ferry Building after work at 5:30 pm with networking, then the program starts at 6:30 pm, and more like a party going from 8 pm to 10 pm.

Format: The main conversation will feature a range of remarkable innovators giving their initial thoughts in short five-minute segments about many of the questions surrounding the actual risks of Gen AI. We consider everyone invited as having something valuable to contribute and want to get out as many perspectives as possible into the program and the party.

Media: The formal program of 90 minutes will be videoed so by getting a ticket you are giving your consent to let us video those gathered. We will create an essay that synthesizes what we learned, and edit extended quotes from the speakers that will be shared through our new Substack series The Great Progression.

Party: After the program, everyone will be encouraged to stay for networking and more like a party where we can carry on the conversation, sub-caucus in smaller groups, and potentially find ways to work together.

Organizers: Reinvent Futures is creating and producing The Great Progression Series of events and related media. They are working closely with Shack15 and Cerebral Valley, among others.

Sponsors: We have some key companies coming together to sponsor these important gatherings, including Autodesk, Capgemini, Slalom and White & Case. If your organization would like to be involved in these gatherings as a sponsor then contact cohost and Reinvent Futures Managing Director Joe Boggio.
