About Event

Event Access: Please enter Mission High through lobby on south side of building across from Dolores Park. Event is being held in the auditorium on the 4th floor. Ushers wearing WIE name badges will be on-site if you need help finding the auditorium.

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of Women in Environment is excited to host our first Professional Development event of the year at Mission High School on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Come join us for a lively conversation with our panelists who will discuss the unique opportunities and challenges for offshore wind development in California. We are pleased to offer this event as part of the SF Climate Week program, and we welcome community members and visitors to come learn more about our organization and network with industry leaders across the environmental field. Heavy hor’dourves and drinks will be provided.

Meet your panelists:

Vida Strong, Environmental Compliance Manager at Aspen Environmental Group

Ms. Strong has extensive experience in environmental engineering and project management, with an emphasis in the application of CEQA and NEPA in analysis, permitting, and resultant mitigation mon­itoring of controversial development projects. Ms. Strong is the Deputy Program Manager for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Report and Environmental Impact Statement for the CADEMO Offshore Wind Energy Demonstration Project, California’s first floating offshore wind project off the coast of Vandenburg Space Force Base, Santa Barbara County (starting soon).

Aspen Ellis, Seabird Ecologist and Doctoral Student at U.C. Santa Cruz

Ms. Ellis is a Ph.D. student and NOAA Nancy Foster Scholar in the Conservation Action Lab in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at the University of California Santa Cruz with a designated emphasis in Coastal Science and Policy. Her current research is focused on approaches to assess and mitigate the impacts of offshore wind energy development to marine bird populations.

Rebecca Neill, Marine Geoscientist at RWE

Ms. Neill is a geoscientist with over six years of experience integrating geophysical, geological, geochemical, and geotechnical data for exploration, site characterization and geohazard assessments of marine infrastructure and offshore wind development.

Moderator:

Melinda Schulze, Senior Environmental Planner at Burns & McDonnell

Ms. Schulze is an experienced Senior Environmental Planner with a demonstrated history of working in the environmental industry.
