​Description

​​In this week's class, we will be looking at female figures and divine imagery in classical Chinese portraiture. We will focus on the line work of these figure paintings: Master "Gao Gu You Si" (ancient gossamer lines), "Qin Xian" (zither-string lines), "Tie Xian" (iron-wire lines), and "Ding Tou Shu Wei" (nail-head mouse-tail lines). Then, we will be practicing line techniques for figure painting using fundamental tools (brush, ink, paper, inkstone) in Chinese painting. 

​​We will provide ink, paint, brushes, and paper for class use. You may take all the artwork you’ve produced with you!

​​Every “Ink Painting Lab” is composed of lectures on Chinese ink art history, painting technique demonstration and practicing sessions. You can click on this link to learn more about the full semester class. Classes are beginner-friendly. Themes are interconnected yet self-contained. Students may come for the full 8-week class, specific topic(s) and/or at any point in the semester!
