About Event

Join us on a mission to rewild the planet for the children of 2100.

Ecosystem restoration is one of five largest net emission reduction opportunities by 2030 according to the IPCC. Over the past century, humanity has converted vast tracks of land from primary forest into other uses, many of which have already been abandoned after degradation. This is especially true in Southeast Asia. In the Philippines alone, the primary forest cover has gone from 70+% in the early 1900s to ~23% today.

Come learn how Wovoka works with People's Organizations in the Philippines to invest into the local communities' alternative income streams and scope out community-based reforestation projects on the land they manage.

We will cover:

  • How ecosystem restoration sites are identified

  • How the financing works

  • How we measure success of the community efforts as well as the ecological benefits

  • How you can donate and invest to make it happen

Additionally learn from ProgramEarth a 501c3 working to bring software developers into the nature restoration fold through fostering a network of open source projects to connect early career fellows into grassroots climate initiatives.

Prepare for an engaging discussion on the need for nature-based solutions to climate, the role of carbon finance, and how communities in the global south are driving the most scalable "climate tech" solution there is today.
