Road to PSF: Zanzibar
Community. Sound. Prosperity.
The Parallel Society Festival is a grassroots movement where underground music, cutting-edge technology and activism collide.
Leading up to the main event in March 2026, we will host a series of pop-ups globally, from the electronic underground to traditional roots.
During this first Road to PSF event, we celebrate and preserve the history of Zanzibarian Taarab performance, music, and the pioneers evolving sounds and pushing local culture forward.
A new type of grassroots gathering starts now.
LINE-UP
14:00 - 22:00
Trailblazers in Zanzibar’s contemporary music scene, this Afro-fusion collective is fronted by the powerful voice of Siti Amina. Their sound is deeply rooted in Taarab tradition, but unapologetically modern — weaving Swahili poetry with jazz, soul, and digital textures.
"Our music speaks of identity, memory, and the right to evolve." — Siti Amina
TRYPHON EVARIST
Hailing from Dar es Salaam, Tryphon brings a raw, percussive energy to the stage. With influences from East African bongo flava, soukous, and reggae, his live shows are known for their infectious grooves and lyrical fire. Expect danceable rhythms and powerful messages of resistance, love, and legacy.
Ngoma World
Ngoma World (16 artists) will kick off a street party set amongst the Kwentu Kwenu Community market. An experimental ensemble blending indigenous Zanzibari instruments, dub atmospheres, spoken word, dance, and drumming, this group is a musical dialogue between elders and youth, past and future, crafting hypnotic live sets that feel like ancestral transmissions.
DJ KCM
Known for deep crates and even deeper cuts, DJ KCM threads together Afro-diasporic beats, ambient roots, and underground rhythms. Expect a hypnotic mix that connects continents through sound.
DJ ZAINOOBA
Sonic storyteller, bass explorer, and house alchemist. From the rhythmic clatter of plates to the pulse of underground beats, Zainooba’s journey into music is a testament to passion’s electric pull. A self-taught DJ who once navigated the chaos of the dining floor, she now commands the dance floor, weaving hypnotic blends of deep house, electronic grooves, and bass-heavy
experimentation.
Kwentu Kwelu Community Market - 10:00- 17:00
Established during COVID, the Kwetu Kwenu Community Market aims to showcase sustainable local products from Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania. Set in Fumba Town's beautiful Permaculture landscape. MissB, the founder of the market, decorates it with love and passion. The products are a colourful mix of food, fashion, natural cosmetics, arts, crafts, plants, and much more – all underlined by the distinguished sound of local Zanzibar musicians performing.
