Aligning Capital with Climate Impact

A NY Climate Week event to Activate More Capital for Climate Solutions.

We need to activate more capital for climate change mitigation because the scale of the challenge is immense. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has estimated that we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050 in order to avoid the worst effects of climate change. This will require a massive investment in clean energy, energy efficiency, and other climate-friendly technologies.

The good news is that there is a growing amount of capital available for climate change mitigation. In 2021, global climate finance reached a record $74.2 billion. This was driven by a surge in private investment, which accounted for 60% of total climate finance.

However, more capital is still needed. The IPCC has estimated that we need to mobilize $100 billion per year in climate finance by 2030. This will require governments, businesses, and individuals to come together and make a significant investment in the fight against climate change.
