About Event

Join us for a panel discussion, Q&A and networking event focusing on rebuilding confidence in forestry credits. The urgency of the climate crisis requires us to utilize every tool at our disposal to combat its worsening effects. While carbon credits aren’t a magic solution, they’re a tool that can create a tangible and verifiable impact today. Some of the most threatened forests in the world come under protection from carbon credits, yet market critics continue to call into question their credibility and effectiveness amidst verification and monitoring challenges, and concerns surrounding their impact on local and indigenous communities.

The World Economic Forum has stated “No one is claiming forest carbon credits are perfect. In fact, most working in this field will be the first to highlight areas for improvement – and welcome increased scrutiny to identify where the system is being gamed. But we stand behind the use of demonstrably high-quality forest carbon credits as a crucial tool in the urgent fight against climate change."

Forests are an indispensable climate solution that cannot be substituted and must be included in the discussion amongst new and improved technological solutions. In this panel discussion, several industry experts will gather to discuss the importance of protecting our endangered forests, the work being done, and positive impact seen to date, and how we can collectively rebuild confidence in forestry carbon credits.

Panel Participants:

  • Dr. Sassan Saatchi: Founder of CTrees, and Senior Research Scientist, NASA JPL

  • Dee Lawrence: Member, Standards Oversight Committee of The Integrity Council for The Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) & Co-Founder and Director of High Tide Foundation, Cool Effect and Proyecto Mirador

  • Tracy Johns: Carbon Removal Program Lead at Meta

  • Alexia Kelly: Managing Director of the Carbon Policy and Markets Initiative (CPMI) at High Tide Foundation

  • Moderated by Jodi Manning, CEO of Cool Effect

Following the panel concluding at 6 p.m., we’ll invite questions for the panelists and host a networking session with light refreshments provided.  Please register for this event by April 19 as space is limited.
