Panel Discussion: How Women Are Breaking Into Tech
A special event in partnership with Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences
Join us to hear from a panel of women in tech who will share their distinct tech career paths. From career changers who pivoted to tech careers from diverse backgrounds as well as career advancers. Hear about their trajectories and get advice on what has helped them to succeed. Whether you're considering a career change or looking to level up in your current tech role, this dual-focus event offers valuable guidance for your next professional step.
Our belief that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue a career in tech, and hear about different pathways that are available.
Target Audience:
Women considering graduate education options, professionals from non-technical backgrounds interested in transitioning to tech & current tech professionals interested in advancing their careers.
Speaker Information:
April Gustafson, Data Engineer at Spotify
April received a B.S. in Chemistry from Wheaton College (IL). After 7 years teaching high school chemistry, she decided to pivot to a career in tech and joined the Align program in the fall of 2018 at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences.
April started a co-op with Spotify in 2020, and, since then, has continued full-time at Spotify in the Personalization department as a data and backend engineer.
Akriti Chadda, Applied Science at Microsoft AI
Akriti is an Applied Scientist at Microsoft, building AI systems that power the way millions of people search for and find information online.
She spends her days fine-tuning ranking algorithms, experimenting with generative AI, and building smarter search systems that actually understand what you mean, not just what you type.
Akriti is passionate about making AI approachable and human-centered. Whether she’s giving talks on the future of search or prototyping an AI assistant to help parents (inspired by her own 2 a.m. questions as a new mom), she believes great technology should solve real problems - thoughtfully and responsibly.
Outside of work, she’s raising a toddler, rediscovering her love for books, and staying curious about how technology meets real life; over coffee, of course.
