A conversation with Tanzanian entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael Shirima

​Join us for a lunchtime discussion with distinguished entrepreneur and philanthropist, Michael Shirima. The conversation will be facilitated by Tsai CITY faculty director, Anjelica Gonzalez, associate professor of biomedical engineering.

​After losing his father at a young age, Michael Shirima moved from Tanzania to the UK to study aeronautics. Upon returning to Tanzania, he founded the largest privately held commercial airline, Precision Air, in 1993. Thus began his journey as a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist. CNN has featured stories on his inspiring journeys of starting an airline and of starting an orphanage.

​Michael Shirima's autobiography, On My Father's Wings: An Entrepreneurial Journey of Finding Humility, Resiliency, and a Lasting Legacy, was published in 2022.
