Starting with an exclusive conversation with the Mayor of SF Climate Week's host city, the Honorable London Breed, MCJ Collective Managing Partner and Podcast Host Cody Simms will also be joined on stage by Shashank Samala, CEO and Co-founder of Heirloom and California Senator Scott Wiener. The live podcast recording aims to explore various topics, including SB253, and its pivotal role in shaping the emissions reductions and removals industry. The podcast recording will be followed by a networking happy hour with drinks and appetizers. Our location partner for this event is 9Zero.
🎙️ Meet our host and guests:
🪨 Shashank Samala is CEO of Heirloom, a company building Direct Air Capture technology that harnesses the natural properties of limestone to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere with a real path towards billion-ton scale removal. He is a serial entrepreneur with a background in electronics manufacturing and was previously Entrepreneur in Residence at Carbon180. Shashank grew up in southeast India where he saw those who had done the least to cause the climate crisis suffering the most from its impacts.
🌉 Senator Scott Wiener has represented San Francisco and northern San Mateo County in the California Senate since 2016. In that time, he has made advancing California’s global leadership on climate change a top priority, leading efforts to ban fracking in the state, streamline permitting for clean energy and public transportation projects, transform California’s energy storage market through the largest investment in its history, fund and expand public transportation. He has been a major national voice advocating to use land use policy and dense housing as critical levers to slash greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. In 2023, the New York Times declared Senator Wiener’s SB 253 – the nation’s first law requiring corporations to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions – to be a “landmark climate disclosure bill… with national and global repercussions in governments’ efforts to fight climate change.” He was the only elected official to be honored as one of TIME Magazine’s top 100 Climate Leaders in 2023.
🎤 Cody Simms is the host of the My Climate Journey podcast and Managing Partner at MCJ Collective. He's also co-founder of Climate Changemakers, a non-profit climate action network that got its start in the MCJ Member community. Cody co-authored the Amazon-bestselling book Levers: The Framework for Building Repeatability into Your Business.
