Let’s meet our guest…

Meet David: David has worked near the interface between climate science, energy technology, and public policy since 1991. Best known for his work on the science, technology, and public policy of solar geoengineering, David led the development of Harvard’s Solar Geoengineering Research Program. He took first prize in Canada’s national physics prize exam, won MIT’s prize for excellence in experimental physics, and was one of TIME Magazine’s Heroes of the Environment. David is a Professor at Harvard’s School of Engineering and at the Kennedy School. He is founder of Carbon Engineering, a Canadian company developing technology to capture CO2 from ambient air.

Our AMA with David will start on Wednesday 22nd February at 9am PST - 12pm EST - 5pm GMT and will run asynchronously in the MCJ AMA slack channel for 24 hours.

In David’s episode with Jason, they cover:

  • An overview of solar geoengineering, how concentrated an area can it be deployed in and the steps that go into testing it.

  • How hard solar geoengineering is to deploy, alongside potential risks of deployment and potential risks of also not doing the testing too.

  • How much research is needed (and for what), and also how much solar geoengineering will cost.

  • Where solar geoengineering fits into overall climate solutions portfolio, and whether it’s a ‘bridge’ versus a longterm solution.

  • What fossil fuel companies think of solar geoengineering.

  • David’s advice for others looking to help facilitate research in this area and/or learn more about it.

Set your reminders, and get your questions ready! You can ask David anything!
