About Julia Van de Walle

​Julia is General Counsel and Chief Operations Officer for Carmenta Management, LLC, a late-state venture capital firm with peak AUM of over $500 million, since 2020. Carmenta has a presence in the Bay Area, Miami and Southeast Asia. She was previously in private practice for nine years, most recently as a senior associate at Cooley LLP, an internationally recognized law firm, advising and representing premiere venture capital and private equity firms on fund formation, fund maintenance, upper-tier structuring and regulatory compliance matters, while based in their San Francisco office. 

​Julia served as outside counsel to Carmenta for four years while at Cooley LLP.  Prior to Cooley LLP, she was an associate at Gunderson, Dettmer, Stough, Villeneuve & Franklin LLP in Redwood City, CA in their venture fund formation practice, representing many prominent venture capital firms in connection with their fund formation and fundraising activities. Prior to that, Julia was an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York, NY, having worked on public and private M&A deals, large credit finance transactions and private equity fund formation, including a secondment with Morgan Stanley Investment Management covering their real estate investing platform. 

​Julia holds a B.A. degree from Brown University (magna cum laude) and earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.  She is admitted to practice law in New York and California and she currently resides in San Francisco, CA.  In her free time, Julia loves to cook and try new restaurants.
