Join us for a discussion with Vivian Underhill and Gary Allison on how oil & gas companies are exploiting legal loopholes to use toxic chemicals in fracking without adequate oversight.

Using the “Halliburton Loophole,” fracking companies bypass Safe Drinking Water Act protections and inject hazardous chemicals near underground drinking water supplies, potentially endangering the health of surrounding communities and the safety of their water.

Vivian will break down the cracks in regulating fracking chemicals and give us an idea of the horrible, toxic outcomes from exemptions.

Gary will also introduce the Open-FF data tool, which they used to identify harmful chemicals used by the fracking industry, and talk about how you can use the tool in your own advocacy.

This will be an interactive event, with opportunities for audience members to discuss advocacy issues surrounding fracking chemicals and learn more about the Open-FF data tool.

This article in The Conversation breaks down the findings from Vivian and Gary’s research into the dangers of injecting unregulated fracking chemicals into our water.

Vivian and Gary’s talk will be based on the research article they co-authored with other experts: "Outcomes of the Halliburton Loophole: Chemicals regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act in US fracking disclosures, 2014–2021.
