Grace in Generational Transition: Raising Up Young Adult Leaders

​How can the Religious Society of Friends gracefully navigate generational transitions and work to raise up young adult leadership in our communities? What are the opportunities to live into worship and our lives with one another in new ways through these transitions? Diane Randall, outgoing general secretary of the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), will reflect on these queries in conversation with Nils Klinkenberg, executive director of Beacon Hill Friends House (BHFH).

​Diane will leave her post as general secretary at the end of 2021. During her tenure at FCNL, Diane increased the organization’s outreach to young adults and non-Quakers, developed the Quaker Welcome Center, and acquired the Friends Place on Capitol Hill (formerly the William Penn House), a Quaker guesthouse and center for civic engagement. Nils spent a quarter-century very active in the youth programs of New England Yearly Meeting as a participant and a volunteer. He has amplified young adult Quaker voices in the broad expansion of BHFH's public programming and holds long-time interests in the experience of Quaker youth as they transition to adulthood and in leadership development within and outside of the Society of Friends.
