Deconstructing Fashion with FASHINFIDELITY: A 3-part webinar series

Did you know that 63% of the world's fabric is made out of plastic? And that less than 1% of the world's textiles is recycled back into re-useable feedstock, with 87% of textiles produced end up in landfills? The textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) industry is responsible for up to 10% of the world's global greenhouse emissions, and most of us haven't a clue!

At FASHINFIDELITY we believe in empowering our community with knowledge that sticks. There’s only so much you can glean from reading social media posts and clicking the like button. Najah Onn, our founder and sustainable fashion expert, is here to help. Consider this your training on navigating the world of fashion, sustainability, and social responsibility governance. Newbies, intermediaries, and advanced students are all welcome! You don't need to be working in or studying fashion to attend, because the more diverse our community, the better our problem-solving becomes.

Pricing: We would love it if you would be able to pay us a very small fee for hosting the webinars. We are charging RM 25 for the whole series (AU$ 8.15) or RM 10 if you’d like to attend just one (AU$ 3.26), and the cost covers the charges borne by the payment gateway. Monies collected will fund the production of future events and webinars, competitions and giveaways for the FASHINFIDELITY community, our Zoom Pro membership, and promotional materials and marketing for our advocacy work. We also believe true knowledge can’t all be free, and must be taught. If you are really interested in the webinars, but you cannot afford to pay, please email us and we will happily provide you with a special promo code – no questions asked! Please note: if you want to attend only individual webinars, make sure you select those that apply.

FASHINFIDELITY is a community founded by Najah Onn, an environmental and sustainability practitioner by profession with 17 years’ experience.  In 2018 she started a blog, FASHINFIDELITY.com, an online platform providing fresh analyses on the crimes of Big Fashion, because she thought there wasn’t enough articles being written online about the fashion supply chain and its myriad of issues, as well as solutions.  A lot of information she found on the topics of ethical/ sustainable/ eco-fashion at the time merely scrapes the surface on the real issues prevalent in this industry.

At FASHINFIDELITY, we attempt to deconstruct the many facets of fashion’s supply chain, and give light to all of its challenges.  With an environmental engineering ethos, we believe in holistic conscientious thought to tackling problems. We aim to open up the sustainability in fashion conversation to attract intelligent discourse for everyday consumers, and for those who have the capacity to influence decision-making in the industry itself, as well as up-and-coming professionals in fashion, textile, and footwear.

As Najah says;

“ It’s not enough that we buy organic cotton. They are still the thirstiest yarn on the Planet. I just wanted to explain why. It’s not enough that businesses had to ‘contribute’ to the safety standards of garment factories in underdeveloped nations, only after Rana Plaza collapsed and made headlines around the world in 2013. It’s not enough that we know where our furniture comes from, what the fuel efficiency of our cars are, whether the eggs we buy are cage-free or not, but we can’t possibly know the resources and labour involved in a piece of T-shirt at point of purchase. “

As FASHINFIDELITY grew as a voice in this space, so has our community.  Our biggest fans are based in Malaysia– and we enjoy bringing out nuances in the uptake of sustainability in fashion unique to this country, as well as the South East Asian region. For the whole of the supply chain to enact effective change, we need all opinions to matter, especially when it comes to localised actions and solutions.

Our vision is to be a leader in bridging consumer interest and advocacy with industry news of fashion innovation and sustainability. We want to add a bit of substance in the Conscious Fashion chatter. We would like to educate, inspire, and empower good decision-making. We need changemakers to come from all sorts of colours, shapes and sizes.

We hope you join us!
