6:50pm - Kevin McLauglin, Zygg
Kevin is the CEO of Zygg, making ebikes simple. He has been a pioneer of urban sustainability in Canada for more than 30 years, with a focus on shared mobility. He is a co-founder of Evergreen Canada, Modo - the car coop in Vancouver and AutoShare in Toronto.
The EVs our cities actually need: Kevin will highlight what is most suited to addressing the specific challenges of urban environments, which encompasses various modes of electric transportation, such as eBikes and micro-mobility solutions.
7.15pm - Lanrick Bennett Jr, Charlie's FreeWheels
About Lanrick: Lanrick Bennett Jr is the Executive Director of Charlie's FreeWheels. His previous work has kept him within the active transportation, urban design, and placemaking sphere. In 2022, BYCS an Amsterdam-based global NGO, appointed Lanrick as Toronto’s first Bicycle Mayor and in 2024 he was selected to become the Urbanist in Residence at UofT's School of Cities.
Through personal anecdotes and insights into their advocacy work, discover how micromobility can transform urban living, reduce carbon footprint, and foster sustainable communities. Gain valuable perspectives on societal shifts needed to embrace this transformative mode of transportation and learn how you can advocate for expanded micromobility in your community.
7.40pm - David Lepofsky, AODA
David Lepofsky is a distinguished visiting research professor at the University of Western Ontario's Faculty of Law, with extensive experience in disability rights. He chairs the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Alliance and leads the Toronto District School Board's Special Education Advisory Committee. Serving on various education and advocacy boards, including Ontario Parents of Visually Impaired Children, he's been instrumental in shaping policies to remove barriers for students with disabilities.
David will demonstrate how electric scooters endanger safety and accessibility for vulnerable people with disabilities and seniors. He will show how strong support for micromobility need not and should not include allowing the silent menace of e-scooters.
