About Event

In 2024, news of funding rounds still excites the African tech ecosystem.

For most people, it is a validation that an idea makes sense and for many more, it is a sign that the startup will succeed.

But will it?

VC-funded startups scale fast but a Harvard Business School study states that 75% of these startups do not return investors’ funds.

And in Africa, the reality is not any different.

But while many startups are positioned to get funded, few startups have bootstrapped their way to the top in Africa.

Bootstrapped startups grow slower than their VC-funded counterparts but they can operate with less external control and also achieve profitability faster.

So it brings up the question: which is better – to bootstrap your startup or to seek VC funding early in your journey?

To answer this question, we teamed up with Raise on this webinar - “Bootstrapping vs Raising for Your Company”.

Caleb Maru, Founder of Tech Safari will host;

  • Douglas Kendyson (CEO at Selar) who has bootstrapped Selar for the last 8 years into a $4 million creator marketplace.

  • Dominique Pitot (Founder of Joyforge Labs) who raised millions to scale his former companies, Inoxico and Trade Shield.

  • Lisa Illingworth, the Managing Director at Raise Africa – an African company ownership platform helping founders raise capital and manage equity.

Bootstrapping and getting funded both have their pros and cons and in this webinar, we will compare and contrast the differences.

If you’re trying to figure out which is a better option for your startup, this session is for you.

This webinar is on 6th March at 5 pm EAT.
