The Co-founder and CEO of Carousell, Siu Rui Quek, who graduated from the National University of Singapore, stands as a visionary entrepreneur and one of the founding figures behind Carousell.
Carousell, conceived with a mission to create a user-friendly mobile application for seamless buying and selling of second-hand items, swiftly gained popularity in the market, especially among the younger demographic.
As a leader at Carousell, Siu Rui Quek showcased remarkable leadership acumen. Successfully launching and steering the platform, he actively participated in fundraising activities, catapulting Carousell into becoming one of Southeast Asia's prominent second-hand trading platforms, achieved unicorn status in September 2021 after securing a $100 million funding round, elevating its valuation to $1.1 billion.
Beyond regional success, Siu Rui Quek has been instrumental in Carousell's international expansion, venturing into markets such as Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. With nearly 800 employees across the Carousell Group, operating in eight markets.
Carousell initially received funding from AppWorks in 2018 during the Series C round.
