This event, "Navigating AI Privacy: Strategies and Challenges," will feature Ray Everett, known as the worlds first Chief Privacy Officer and now the Chief Compliance and Data Privacy Officer at Topcon Healthcare. Ray will present on privacy strategies in AI, followed by Ritchie Po`s insights on AI's impact within the Canadian context.
The session will conclude with a fireside chat and Q&A, where Ritchie will deep dive with Ray into privacy, ethics, and security in AI.

Ray Everett - First Chief Privacy Officer of the Internet Era!
Ray Everett is an American attorney, entrepreneur, and author, known for creating the first Chief Privacy Officer role of the Internet era at an online ad-tech company in 1999. He currently serves at Chief Compliance and Data Privacy Officer for Topcon Healthcare Inc., a leader in the ophthalmology and AI diagnostics space. For more than 25 years, he's been a prominent advocate for responsible online advertising and privacy, and his expertise has been recognized in publications like The New York Times and by Business Insider, which listed him as one of the "Most Important LGBT People in Tech." A founding board member of the IAPP, he also led a product team at TrustArc developing the industry's first automated solutions for privacy risk assessments and data inventories. He is also known for his work in the law and technology around fighting spam, including being part of the team that developed the groundbreaking TurnTide technology, purchased by Symantec Corporation in 2006.
Ray co-authored "Internet Privacy for Dummies" and "Fighting Spam for Dummies" and wrote a monthly column for Datamation and eSecurity Planet for more than 6 years. He's a graduate of George Washington University Law School and is based in Silicon Valley
Ritchie Po, JD, is a seasoned data privacy and technology lawyer with designations in both Canadian (CIPP/C) and European/GDPR (CIPP/E) privacy laws, offering his expertise on a contractual or consultancy basis. His practice focuses on guiding global institutions and businesses in data privacy compliance, including building comprehensive privacy management programs, responding to and advising entities on privacy breaches, and writing complex cross-jurisdictional privacy impact assessments.
Ritchie also dedicates time to professional volunteering in the legal and the privacy professions, and has served on the executive of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia. He is an extensive conference planner and currently serves on the advisory board for Reboot Communications’ Vancouver International Privacy & Security Summit (VIPSS).
Outside of the privacy law field, he is active in the retail space and is a Contributing Editor at Retail Insider, the national retail media publication. He occasionally likes being paid in couture and swag (which may or may not be included in his hourly rate).
