This six-part series begins with "What is AI: The History and Fundamentals," featuring Anthony Green, a notable AI expert. Anthony, co-founder of OpenRep.ai, esteemed UBC instructor, course developer, and member of the AI Ethics panel at the Canadian Digital Governance Council, will guide us through the evolution of artificial intelligence.

This event aims to demystify AI for enthusiasts, professionals, and the merely curious. Starting from the early concepts of neural networks in the 1980s and foundational mathematical theories, Anthony will outline AI's development, highlighting key research milestones and contributors who've shaped the field.

He'll delve into machine learning basics, showing how these techniques enable computers to learn and improve. The talk will then focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT, their unique capabilities, and their significance in advancing text processing and generation.
