About Event

We’ve partnered with The Fore who rigorously and transparently screen thousands of small charities and social enterprises (turnover under £0.5m) to identify those with exceptional leadership, innovative ideas and cost-effective solutions. The Fore then provides a wraparound package of unrestricted, multi-year grant-funding (up to £30,000) training, skilled volunteers, peer-to-peer networks and impact measurement.

Each month, representatives from charities and non-profits funded by the Fore will come and share their missions and the specific challenges and problems they are facing. As they scale up, they need and want our help.

This is a unique chance for Brave Starts members to donate time, energy, expertise or insight to organisations we know are making a considerable, positive difference.

MEET THIS MONTH'S SPEAKERS & CHARITIES:

James Houston, Education & Fundraising Manager @ Tea Leaf Trust

Tea Leaf Trust aims to lift Sri Lankan tea estate communities out of extreme poverty. They've been established for 15 years and have built strong community trust and respect in the Sri Lankan tea estates.

Their role has been (and continues to be) to provide education, skills and exposure to ideas to help young people lead and improve their communities.

They have a rich volunteering programme and are particularly keen to partner with professionals passionate about developments in IT, Education and Healthcare that could bring opportunities to this isolated and often forgotten community. They are also keen to partner with people of Sri Lankan heritage to increase our engagement with this community.

Karen Coulson, COO @ Be Enriched

Be Enriched was formed in September 2013 by a group of youth workers, arts professionals and young people to provide others the opportunity to develop skills and improve community cohesion through training and volunteering opportunities.

Together the group started the Canteens Project, a short-term activity to provide young offenders with an alternative community service opportunity. After a month, with 40 regulars and utilising a huge amount of surplus food, those involved could clearly see that there was an ongoing need for food and friendship in the community.

They have now expanded to three Community Canteens serving over 3,000 meals in 2022, working with 650 volunteers. The team also runs the unique Food Bus, providing low-cost food in Lambeth and Wandsworth, while helping to tackle holiday hunger with their Kids Clubs when schools are closed.

Phyllida Swift, CEO @ Face Equality International

Face Equality International is an alliance of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), charities and support groups which are working at national, regional or international levels to promote the campaign for ‘face equality’.

Their vision is for the global facial difference community to live freely, without indignity or discrimination. In order to achieve their vision, their mission is to position face equality as a social justice movement.

Dani Coombe, CEO & Founder @ Fowler's Syndrome

Fowler’s Syndrome aims to ensure women with Fowler’s syndrome are diagnosed, treated and cared for in a timely, holistic and multi-faceted approach, across the entirety of the UK. Their vision is to change the clinical landscape for women with Fowler’s syndrome.

Debra Fox, CEO @ Behind Every Kick

Behind Every Kick uses the power of sport to develop young people. They empower young people to discover that the skills they are building on the pitch or court can be harnessed to unlock a lifetime of wider opportunities.
