About Event

MistyWest is pleased to team up with Ember Prototypes for a meetup focused on additive manufacturing.

Philip Tsao, founder of Ember Prototypes has gathered industry experts to discuss the latest advancements in 3D printing, from industrial-grade production and cutting-edge materials to the role of additive manufacturing in education and medical device innovation.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just curious about the possibilities of rapid prototyping, this event promises to inspire and inform your digital design dreams.

Tickets are $20.

Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be served. A Formlabs Form 4L will be demoing live at the event. Shop3D will also be present with a 3D scanner. Small prizes will be given away near the end of the event.

Speakers

Jon Nakane, Program Director, Integrated Engineering (IGEN) at UBC

Jon Nakane is an Associate Professor of Teaching in UBC’s Materials Engineering department and the Program Director of Integrated Engineering. Previously, he was the Lab Director for UBC Engineering Physics for over a decade. He teaches a range of engineering and design courses, from first-year introductions to advanced prototyping and entrepreneurship. Beyond academia, Jon supports the Shad UBC program and serves on the board of FIRST Robotics BC.

Radu PostoleProduct Design Lead at Arbutus Medical

Radu Postole is the Product Design Lead at Arbutus Medical. As a designer and engineer, his work has focused on product development and R&D in a variety of industries - solar lighting for commercial office buildings, assistive devices for people with disabilities, and medical devices for use in orthopedic surgery. He is an avid tinkerer and maker, passionate about designing and building products that have positive social impact.

Colin Schlosser, Research Engineer at Abcellera, formerly at Rapidia

Colin Schlosser was formerly a Research Engineer with Rapidia, a Vancouver-based metal 3d printing startup. Colin has also earned experience in the prototyping and production of laboratory equipment and medical devices at Vancouver's Cancer Research Center and Genome Sciences Center.

Ian Nakamoto, Cofounder, Director of Business Dev at Forge Labs Inc.

Jacky Wan, Cofounder of Shop3D

Jacky Wan is the co-founder of Shop3D.ca, a leading Canadian 3D printing distributor with a decade of expertise in additive desktop solutions for professionals and institutions. With locations in Vancouver and Toronto, Shop3D.ca offers a knowledgeable, local resource from prototyping to short-run production, specializing in 3D printers, scanners, and engineering materials. His extensive experience developing and growing the Canadian market with some of the most successful 3D printing brand like Formlabs and Ultimaker during the formative years provides him a unique perspective on the additive manufacturing landscape.

(Moderator) Phil Tsao, Founder of Ember Prototypes

Phil Tsao is a former Westie and the founder of Ember Prototypes, a rapid prototyping and product design company in Vancouver, Canada. With expertise in mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software design, he has worked across industries, including fuel cell technology, robotics and consumer hardware. He is passionate about 3D printing and other rapid prototyping techniques, constantly exploring new ways to push the limits of fabrication. Phil is excited to host this event and share insights into the evolving world of 3D printing and additive manufacturing.
