Live coding with Hydra & Strudel ~Creative Coding Crafts Space [c3s] meetup #8~
☾☾☾☾☾☾
The algorave and live coding scene in London has been thriving 💖, with many artists finding a home in the perfect blend of multiple stands of creative expression that it offers: music, visuals, coding, collaboration and live performance. If you’ve been curious about how to get into experimenting or performing live yourself, come along!
☾☾☾☾☾☾
We’re very excited to welcome four very special guests deeply involved in the live coding scene, who will introduce two of the most popular browser-based live coding languages - Hydra (visuals) and Strudel (music), and give you space to play around and offer valuable feedback.
Please note that a basic level of comfort with JavaScript will be assumed, but you don’t need any prior experience with audio-visual programming.
This meetup will be run by Laura Porta (portal_.aura), Daniel (SYNTƏL8), June (trampbunny) and Zhanlan (Orangespy).
✨Laura is a visual live coder performing mostly in hydra. She is part of Pastagang and enthusiastic about expanding the London live coding scene. (mastodon: laura_porta@neuromatch.social)
✨Daniel is a live coder who performs as SYNTƏL8 and is active in the scene, helping to organise events and meetups. One of his hobbies is seeing others flourish with a little encouragement. (blog, bandcamp)
✨Zhanlan is a multimedia artist, focused on participatory art and audience engagement through digital practice, such as live coding audio-visual performance, and interactive installation through AI and algorithmic technology. (@orangespy)
✨Trampbunny is a cybertranssexual who constructed xerself from spare microprocessors, audio interfaces, and lighting control surfaces. A by-product of queer rave and low-level computations, xe communicates to human life through live coding interfaces, channelling dance music, live video sources, and haptic feedback to make xer presence understood.

🌸 About c3s
Creative coding crafts space embodies the notion of making space - physical space, head space, collaboration space - where we can get together and craft coding projects, generative artwork, new or ‘traditional’ forms of creative coding projects: anything that is born out of the interactions and inspiration that ‘space’ allows for.
We aim to meet about once a month usually (but not this time!) in or around Hackney Wick - an area known for its large artistic community and a Creative Enterprise Zone. We kick things off with a couple of hours of structured content—introducing a new topic or tool, going through live demos, etc. After that, you can choose to stay and delve deeper into the topic of the day, work on your own projects or collaborate with others.
🛎️ Please note that the entrance fee is to help us cover the cost of the venue hire, and this is not a paid coding course.
