Réna Kakon is the co-founder of Kara Ventures, a tech angels fund investing across Africa, and partner of Janngo, a VC fund. She wears many hats, as an advisor, operator and investor with a passion for Africa Tech. Her career started at Fenix, a cleantech startup based in Uganda that was acquired by Engie in 2018. After that she became a tech lawyer, advising mostly YC companies as she is qualified in California. Most recently she launched a newsletter Shado, to help global founders launch and expand their business internationally. 

Tom McGuinn is the General Counsel at Northzone, a multi-stage venture capital fund investing across Europe and the US. Since joining in 2021, he has played a key role in supporting Northzone’s portfolio and operations, following the firm’s successful close of a €1 billion fund. Tom brings deep expertise in venture and startup law, having previously helped build the emerging companies team at Cooley in Europe, where he advised high-growth startups on everything from formation and fundraising to exit.

He began his legal career at Osborne Clarke in London and was seconded to Microsoft as its lead consumer and retail lawyer in the UK. Passionate about early-stage innovation, Tom has also worked closely with accelerators and enjoys partnering with founders navigating the complexities of seed-stage growth.
