Salon Maxivive Season 1 Episode 4 - Ankie van Kasteren
Salon Maxivive is an intimate weekly event where food, stories, and fashion converge to create a community that embodies the essence of Maxivive. Guests enjoy Nigerian Jollof rice prepared by host Papa Oyeyemi, alongside presentations from artists, designers, and other creatives, all aimed at sparking meaningful conversations and connections.
This edition (Season 1, Episode 4) focuses on a series of photographs of young Ankie van Kasteren titled "Sweet Little Baby Bird", which delves into her vivid recollections of events that led to her becoming a victim of sexual abuse as a child model. This salon is part of the "Wearable Memories" initiative, supported by AFK, Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst. "Wearable Memories" seeks to shed light on childhood sexual abuse by sharing real stories from survivors and perpetrators, encouraging others to share their experiences.
Ankie van Kasteren is a Dutch photographer and visual artist based in the Netherlands. She is deeply invested in trauma's healing process and exploring the interactions between humans and nature. In her artistic practice, van Kasteren draws on her personal experiences to fuel her creative work, using her memories to tackle and process the challenges she faces. These experiences evolve into projects like Colofon, where she seeks to transform her trauma into art.
