Join us for a 60-minute session with Dr. Anna Beer as we explore powerful storytelling in her own work and in other authors' writing. We will also engage in creative exercises.
It might help to consider a particular work in progress or writing challenge you are facing, but there is no formal preparation. Come with an open mind and a blank page.
About Anna Beer
Anna is the author of a number of biographies, some about people you’ll know (John Milton, Sir Walter Ralegh and William Shakespeare) and others about people you may not know...yet. She's particularly proud of her feisty, feminist and accessible accounts of female creatives, including her most influential book, Sounds and Sweet Airs: The Forgotten Women of Classical Music (2016) and, more recently, Eve Bites Back: An Alternative History of English Literature. In recent months, Anna has been developing her mentoring work and exploring new directions in her own writing.
A long-time Oxford resident, Anna has held various posts at the University including Director of the Creative Writing Masters' programme. The truth is, however, that although Oxford is home, she's a traveller at heart – whether on night trains, slow boats, on foot or inside a sturdy vehicle complete with roof tent. Her best life is when she grabs her notebooks and laptop, and gets the words down while discovering new parts of the world.
