Latinxs in Sustainability & The Green Journey NYC Climate Week: The Journey Across the US to Discover Climate Equity
Latinxs in Sustainability and The Green Journey are excited to welcome you to our NYC Climate Week event, The Journey Across the US to Discover Climate Equity, on Wednesday September 25th at 6pm ET at ArtsClub in the East Village.* Building on The Green Journey’s 2024 solar-powered bike ride across the US, we will spotlight the incredible diversity of people and communities driving the growth of equitable solar power across the country and also highlight local efforts right here in NYC.
Featuring Megan Routbort (she/her) and Thomas Polo (he/him), the adventurers behind this groundbreaking journey, we will explore how solar accessibility across the US is improving, debunk common myths about solar energy, and discuss ways to accelerate an equitable transition to renewable energy. We will feature presentations with local community leaders from Megan and Thomas’ journey and have an opportunity to hear from a local NYC leader in the space, sparking conversation on how lessons learned and best practices can be amplified across rural, urban, and tribal communities.
We will dive into topics such as:
Who are the key players in driving solar power growth in the US, and how do their diverse backgrounds contribute to a more equitable energy transition?
What initiatives are making solar power more accessible for underrepresented communities, and how are local communities adapting and benefiting from this transition?
How can we overcome misconceptions and barriers about solar power, especially in regions with less sunshine or historic marginalization, and what role do policies, education, and advocacy play in this effort?
