Logistics Exercise Webinar Series - Preparedness

Industrial Accident

About the webinar series

Emergency management organizations across Canada are familiar with tabletop and live exercises. Join us as we deepen our understanding and knowledge of logistics and how it might be amplified in advance of a pending disaster.

This 3-part webinar series is being coordinated by Emergency Management Logistics Canada, IAEM Canada, Team Rubicon Canada, CRHNet, ICS Canada, and NAIT, and moderated with the support of EPIC Podcasts. Each session will include:

  • A 40-minute tabletop exercise delivered in webinar format by leading and experienced Logistics Section Chiefs

  • A 20-minute Q & A session to engage in shared learning

  • A copy of the Industrial Accident scenario for use in your own community

  • A summary briefing and video link following each webinar session.

Who should join?

 Emergency management, communications, procurement, and training personnel. People with ICS background and training will find this information beneficial as a supplement to existing certifications.

 What will you learn?

The organizing committee has set out the following learning objectives for this webinar series:

  • Addressing resource scarcity

  • Pre-planning and mitigation activities

  • Critical infrastructure protection, and

  • Cultural or demographic challenges in resourcing

Meet the Panel:

Co-founder of Emergency Management Logistics Canada and President/CEO of bassa Social Innovations Inc.

Scott is a champion of community resilience and safety, specializing in leveraging social capital to address complex challenges. As the President/CEO of bassa Social Innovations Inc., and co-founder of Emergency Management Logistics Canada, Scott has dedicated his professional career and entrepreneurial endeavors to community and social development.

​​With a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) from Royal Roads University, focusing on Sustainable Community Development and Leadership, Scott is passionate about the power of collaboration. He believes communities achieve remarkable outcomes by sharing collective wisdom, networks, and resources.

Steve Kallies

Senior Lead, Contractor Compliance & Emergency Preparedness, Elk Valley Resources (Glencore)

Councillor, District of Sparwood

Steve is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) based in Sparwood, BC, with expertise spanning mining, fire services, and municipal governance. At Elk Valley Resources, he leads contractor compliance and emergency planning initiatives. He also teaches Occupational Health & Safety at the College of the Rockies and serves as a District Councillor, where he advocates for safety, sustainability, and smart infrastructure.

Mike Olczyk

Emergency Management Coordinator, City of Winnipeg

Mike brings over 18 years of experience in emergency management, including major flood and wildfire response, infectious disease control, and critical infrastructure protection. With a background in provincial and municipal government, Mike is passionate about proactive planning and resilient city systems. He holds a Master’s degree in Natural Resources Management and a Bachelor’s in Geography.

Peter May

Partner & Practice Area Lead, Organizational Resilience, Trace Associates Inc.

Peter leads the Organizational Resilience practice at Trace Associates in Calgary, delivering solutions in emergency management, crisis planning, HSE risk, and enterprise risk management. He brings over two decades of industry experience and holds multiple designations, including CRSP and ABCP. Peter’s focus is helping organizations navigate uncertainty with clarity and confidence.

Manager of Canadian Operations, Flint Hills Resources

Councillor, Town of Hardisty

Wade has over 35 years of experience in oil and gas, with leadership across EHS, emergency response, and security. He chairs CSA’s Technical Committee for Z246.2 on emergency preparedness in the petroleum and natural gas industry, and actively contributes to Hardisty’s Mutual Aid Group. Wade also serves on town council, reinforcing his community-first mindset.

Thomas Fogg 

Senior Manager of Logistics Operations at the Canadian Red Cross

Thomas is a Senior Manager of Logistics Operations at the Canadian Red Cross. With nearly a decade of experience supporting Emergency Management and eight years on the Logistics team, Thomas works with a dedicated group of supply chain specialists across Canada, coordinating the movement of people and supplies before, during, and after emergencies. He has contributed to CRC activities in wildfire evacuations, floods, health emergencies, long-term recovery, and social emergencies in multiple provinces and territories. Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Victoria and now lives in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, the traditional and unceded territory of the Ktunaxa, the Kinbasket (Secwepemc), Syilx, and Sinixt Peoples.
