Jewish Identities in Israel and the Diaspora After 10/7
Concordia Welcomes Students From Bar-Ilan University, Tel Aviv
In August 2022, Concordia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bar-Ilan University, specifically between Concordia’s Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies and its Political Science department, and Bar-Ilan’s Martin (Szusz) Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology. The partnership emphasizes collaborative research, joint publications, and faculty and student exchanges.
The following year, eleven Concordia undergraduate students travelled to Israel for the "Constructive Israeli Identities” joint Field Study Program. A key part of the trip was meeting and working with members of Israel’s diverse religious and ethnic communities including Palestinian Arabs, Bedouins, Ethiopians, Druze and Christians. Bar-Ilan is one of the largest universities in Israel, and is a microcosm of Israeli diversity with its multi-religious and ethnic make-up.
Student Abdel Lazreg shared, “If I had to summarize my trip? Mesmerizing, unforgettable, and life-changing. I feel different…Now that I’ve experienced Israel for myself, I can see it’s much more than everything we see on TV.”
Because of the security situation, we unfortunately could not bring a group there this year, however we are excited to be welcoming Bar-Ilan students to Concordia for what is sure to be an insightful and powerful visit.
