About Event

The Ide-A-Thon is an exciting event happening Saturday, November 16th through Sunday, November 17th, to kick off Global Entrepreneurship Week. In collaboration with the Black Cultural Zone, it is the perfect opportunity for students like you to get involved in solving real-world problems while making a difference in the local community.

This event focuses on generating creative ideas to help improve the East Oakland corridor, an area that faces challenges like economic inequality, public health issues, and community safety. You will have the privilege of collaborating with local nonprofits, businesses, government officials, and community leaders to come up with innovative solutions that can make a lasting impact. The event will be virtual, with exception of the closing ceremony, which will be held in-person at Lisser Hall on Sunday from 4:00-6:00pmPST.

Whether you are passionate about helping others, interested in entrepreneurship, or just want to try something new, the Ide-A-Thon is a fantastic way to get involved, learn, and make an impact. Do not miss out on this unique opportunity!

Here is why you should join:

1. Real-World Experience - You will apply what you are learning in the classroom to tackle real challenges affecting people’s lives. It is a great way to gain hands-on experience and learn new skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation.

2. Networking Opportunities - You will meet professionals from various fields, including business, tech, government, and nonprofits, who can offer mentorship and career guidance. You will also build connections early in your college career that can open doors to internships, jobs, and other opportunities.

3. Making a Difference - This is your chance to be part of something bigger and give back to the community. The ideas you help create could lead to real changes in East Oakland, helping to improve lives and revitalize the neighborhood.

4. Entrepreneurial Skills - Even if you are not planning to start your own business, the Ide-A-Thon will help you think like an entrepreneur. You will learn how to generate ideas, pitch solutions, and work with a diverse team—skills that are valuable in any career.

5. Fun & Collaborative Environment - You will work in teams with other students, community members, and professionals, brainstorming and creating together in a supportive environment. It is a great way to make friends and collaborate with people from different backgrounds.

Please note: For this hackathon, you can sign up as a team or as an individual. The individuals who do not join a team will be put into teams coordinated by the campus organizing team, if requested. Otherwise, it is fine to work alone.
