About Event

Join Anna Sproul-Latimer, Founding Partner and President of Neon Literary and member of The American Chestnut Foundation's Board of Directors, and Noah Landow, Founder and CEO at Macktez, for an informal conversation between a leading technology solutions firm and an expert in another kind of restoration: the startlingly interesting rise, fall, and coming renaissance of the American chestnut tree, a once-ubiquitous species on the East Coast.

Anna came upon the story of the American chestnut in Richard Powers' THE OVERSTORY in 2019. Within two years, she was not just obsessed with the tree's history, but actively helping in its restoration--initially as a field volunteer; eventually as as a board member at TACF, the cause's leading nonprofit. Noah has also served on numerous non-profit boards over the last two decades, and the two of them will explore the idiosyncrasies, benefits, merits, ad peculiarities of that particular form of volunteering.

Join us at the Macktez office after work for light snacks, sips, and an exploratory conversation covering a wide range of topics: what it means to join and serve on a nonprofit board; what the current environmental conservation landscape looks like, and how you can help; and of course the story of the American chestnut, the loss of which has shaped the Appalachian region and national culture in profound, wildly underappreciated ways.
